Or where not to stay? ?| I've still yet to book anything for DL the Elder and I - we leave in 10 days and she's getting a bit twitchy (she's not fancying a cardboard box in which to lay her weary head) .
I never entirely trust Trip Advisor (rightly or wrongly). I'm currently looking at the Hilton- any of my fellow V- flyers have any experience of the place ?
I could do with some recommendations for Philadelphia and Atlantic City too please.

Washington I never stayed in the Hilton. I stayed at the Beacon Hotel & Corporate Hotels, seriously some of the biggest beds I have ever stayed in.

Philadelphia the Sheraton there is literally a 5 minute walk in to central Philadelphia and a few minutes more to the "rocky" steps.

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Capitol DC before and its great. Its the street behind the Air and Space Museum and really close to most attractions and it was fairly priced compared to most other central hotels. Plus being a HI, its pretty much a decent standard to sleep in.

We was there over a weekend and wandering around was slightly weird as all gov. work stops and there isn't anyone around but tourists visiting the attractions!

The DC Hilton is good, I've stayed there. Also like the W, which is as close to the White House as it gets.

We use a Westin for regular stays and the corporate services manager there recently emailed me to say they were getting very full through the summer, so do act soon, it's getting busy.

If you want to stay in Old Town I recommend the Morrison House Hotel (a Kimpton), which is very nice, and the evening wine tasting is lovely, and it's just a walk through Alexandria with its sights and eateries.

In Philly I very much like another Kimpton Hotel, the Hotel Palomar.

Never been to Atlantic City ... ?|

We stayed at the Washington Hilton last June for 2 nights. It had just been refurbished however the room and bathroom was quite small. We had an executive room which had access to the executive lounge which was more like a small canteen where we had breakfast and snacks (you have to buy alcoholic drinks). There is a reasonable bar, restaurant and pool and is a short walk to Dupont Circle where there are shops and restaurants.
The City bus tours stop outside the hotel on their route. We picked up our Hertz hire car there before driving to Atlantic City and New York.
We have also stayed at the Park Hyatt which is far superior but much more expensive however American Express have preferred rates and 100 dollars food and beverage credit if you have a card.
We stayed at Harrahs in Atlantic City which has again been refurbished but the rooms were very dusty and needed a good clean before we were happy to sleep the night. It is also a good way out of the centre. Caesars palace has the best position on the boardwalk close to the shopping pier and factory outlet shops.

My Favourite in Washington is the Hay Adams. Their slogan (which is true) is that 'nothing is overlooked except the White House' - the view from the Hay Adams roof is incredible - it REALLY does look down on the White House....

We stayed in the Fairmont about 18 months ago. Was nice, usual Fairmont high standard.

In Washington I have stayed in what is now the Dupont hotel conveniently sited on Dupont Circle. It was then a Jury's Hotel but is still part of the Doyle Collection

I've also stayed in the Mandarin Oriental near the Smithsonians. It was before I realised the significance of the MO group and got it in a half price sale on Expedia

A friend stayed in the Hotel Monaco which is located in the old Post Office on the edge of Chinatown. It has interesting, quirky bedrooms and the brunch at weekends is great. It's a Kimpton hotel. The same friend relocated to the Kimpton Rouge (he was using reward availability) The place looked like a bordello! )

Have stayed at a couple of Kimptons (not in DC though) and liked them. They do some good deals on their website so worth exploring that (just got a deal for ORD that includes a $25 daily dining credit + a better room for a rate that is cheaper than expedia's cheapest rate)

If you join their In Touch Programme then wifi is free.

The exec lounge was a disaster zone in the morning due to it being spring break. WiFi is only available in the public areas and the exec lounge; it doesn't stretch into the rooms.

DuPont is well served by eating places.

I know DL the Elder is not averse to striding out, but be aware it's an uphill walk from DuPont.

Still haven't booked :0 . Going to do so when I get in later. Quick question re the Hilton. Exec floor or not? From the people who've experienced it it sounds a bit af a bun fight in there but I like the idea of wifi upstairs (as it doesn't extend in to the rooms). Any guide as to drinks costs seeing as they are excluded?
Marriott Crystal city is also coming up as a good deal. Is it any good?

We stayed on the Executive floor last year but it looked like all the rooms were the same with the only benefit being access to the lounge. I think wine was about $8.00 per glass which is at the lower end of bar / restaurant prices.

Just an update on this as we're currently here-the exec lounge is just as Paul described v( . Actually it's probably worse as it's overun with families with lots of kids (whose parents are quite happy for the kids to be in the lounge unaccompanied and the staff seem OK with this v( ). It is also woefully small (even for a normal size Hilton, and this one is BIG). We had breakfast in the main restaurant today (I'd taken this precaution based on Paul's advice and booked a full breakfast rate as well as the exec floor) and was glad I had- standing room only (I came to check my email) and lots of crying babies.
If you want peace and tranquility, this is not the place to be (and that's what I want from an exec lounge).
The good news however is that the room is great and Washingon is fantastic
