Ta Billy

Could be a cheap weekend visit to the parents for me as long as there are offered to Darlington but as Durham and York included should be OK

In the same way that a VS sale works :) . I've just checked the dates with a booking we made last week and the sale fares are more expensive.

I was on the Donny-Kings Cross route in first this week. The food and service was pretty good. It was an unexpected suprise.

Afternoon tea on the way down where I had a selection of sandwhiches and scones with jam and clotted cream. There were other things available too. Also alcohol and soft drinks are included now.

On the way back I was on the last train from London (23.30) so just sandwhiches, crisps and cakes available but still nice all the same. Booze and soft drinks too.

The menu for other meal times looked pretty good and I'l' be using them again in first without a doubt.

This is indeed an unexpected surprise. The times I've used them in the past the only offering in First was tea and a biscuit. Good news.

East Coast has recently improved the food service to more than just tea/coffee and a few biccies.

Indeed, having travelled up and down the East Coast route from Yorkshire to London and back, the first class offer is much improved.

Breakfast is juice, hot drinks and bakery basket following by either a hot breakfast or breakfast sandwich (not to mention toast and the works)

After 11am alcoholic drinks with a good choice of cold and hot menu options- much much improved.

You won't get any First Class fares for less than £25. (excluding short hops like Edinburgh to Berwick for example)
You have to click on the link and use the booking panel on the Special Offer page.
Your route can't include connections on non East Coast trains.

Hi Sealink

Thanks for the pointers, but the Peterborough - Edinburgh route for the days we want is showing no sale seats available; perhaps they were all snapped up. Which frankly is possibly a good thing as we'd already booked and may have been a tad miffed to find that we could have save a few bob. :)

There are a few dates in August where the offer doesn't apply ...
