Hertz through VA website or not?

Going to be in Las Vegas for a couple of days next month and will be hiring a car.
Looking at something around a compact as that should be something like the Toyota Yaris I drive back home.

If I go through hertz.co.uk, I get given prices in US$ and £ so around $68/44 for 2 days. I also get the option of paying then and there or when I get the car.

Noticed that if I going through the VA website / Flying Club, I can earn some miles for a rental and the price turns out the same (unlike an annual travel insurance policy I looked at that comes to at least £10 more by not going direct).
The only problem with this is that even though it says you're at the UK site, prices are in US$ and the only option is to pay when you get the car.
It does seem to include LDW though whereas if I go to the US site directly, this isn't included and it costs twice as much for the same rental.

So, is there any problem with going through the VA website or should I just stick to booking with Hertz directly and paying the rental whilst in the UK?

Also, anything missing for what they offer?

Do make sure you check the small print for the fuel. These days it's usually pay to pick up full (usually incldued in the price) & return full.

We get the best deal with BA Avis Preferred (no charge to join) & extra bonus initial miles, & extra driver included.

Also, we have found the last few times that when we've made a reservation with Avis Preferred, we start to check 2 or 3 weeks before we fly & the price has always come down by between 20-40% :0 .

So we cancel the original booking (no charge) & make a new one. We've saved several hundred pounds over a 3 years. ;)

Hope this helps.

There are lots of rental agencys in the UK so it comes down to what you want and to pay. Have you tried US Rentacar they use Dollar but go for the gold as it includes full tank of fuel.Or VH if you want the miles not much in it.

You just go to the pick up bus stop to the left when you come out of the terminal and wait, the bus is very efficient and takes you straight into the new rentacar terminal.

Not overly bothered by extra miles.
It's just that when prices are roughly the same, I might as well go for the extra miles, pns, caashback or whatever rather than miss out.

Hertz seem to come recommended by a few people. Haven't booked yet as I'm stil checking prices etc although some do differ by £20+ for the same sort of deal.

Did see the gold gas deal mentioned for around £8-9. There's a gas station near my hotel (only one I know of in Las Vegas) so that helps and hopefully the short drive to McCarran won't use enough to incur a few $ charge.

added:
Just looked at a few places for a 4dr intermediate car:

Hertz.co.uk (direct) £48
Hertz ( through VA website or Priority Club) £48 (can't prepay if rate uses a code from a third party website)
Avis.co.uk (direct) £73
Avis.co.uk (through BA website) £66
Dollar (through USRentacar) £55 / £65 (gold package - fuel)
Alamo (direct) ??? (website down)

Do be careful with the extra fuel charge, we declined on booking but in the small print it said we have to return the car empty, so they charged us anyway for the fuel. Always read the small print, in the end it was not too bad as we only paid the price at the pumps on conversion. Regards Linda

if you book direct with Hertz and give them your FC number they will credit the miles. i always book direct and posted the fun i had with .co.uk and .com and using a US v UK address recently.

i would personally pre pay using a UK card (then if you get hassle its easier to sort) i never take the gas option as they charge you for every single drop it takes and you always leave some in it. check for gas stations as you leave the hire car park and fill up within 10 miles on the way back. it still shows full

Plenty of codes around to get 10% discount with Hertz.
You can use quidco and get a further 10% cashback.

As flabound says above, you just have to register your FC no. with your Hertz #1 account to get miles - 1100 per booking - you don't have to go through the VS website.
