All things Singapore Airlines

In just over three weeks time I shall embark on a flight to Singapore on the A380 in business class. It is not my first time on SQ. I flew them from Hong Kong to Singapore and back about five years ago - a flight of some three hours or so.

This time it is different. Apart from the fact that it is the A380, there are some minutiae of service I need to know about before I fly in order to maximise the experience so here are my queries:

1. What is in the amenity kit? For me the most important item is earplugs. If they are not there I need to know before I travel to ensure I have them to hand to be able to ensure a modicum of sleep on the flight from LHR. It isn't as essential on the flight from SIN as it will be a day flight, chosen to ensure that the minute I arrive home I fall into bed (after a nightcap of a G&T or two of course) and sleep soundly thereafter :D

2. Does SQ provide a sleep suit in the same way that VS does? Or do I ask tonty bear for a loan of his rather nice lounge pants? :w

3. The cook has been booked but if I think there is something else on the menu I would prefer, am I committed to the Book the Cook option or can I opt out?

4. Anything else I should know?

I think you'll like Singapore Airlinea

I don't know about ear plugs - I never use them

But the headphones are Bose noise cancelling - with a funny plug n them to stop you stealing them....

The amenIty kit is Salvador ferrugiano (apologise if the spelling is wrong - perfum was never my thing) My wife still uses her amenity bag for some of her makeup

Yes, there are sleep suits - Givency, of course, so Tonty can keep his pants on...

Champagne is Dom P or Krug - I never got as far as G&T

The Chef stuff is genuine - last time we had the 20+ Kaiseki courses. We've been to the restaurant that they get it from - and it's just as good, and served in the restaurant's distinctive crockery

I'm looking forward to your trip report!

Peter

Hi,

Have you tried sqtalk? since this is a Virgin focussed forum I doubt you'll get that many answers here.

I've done the SQ A380 once in Y and it was awesome.

I believe a lot of what Peter has already mentioned is for First only not business.

From reading many TR's on the SQ A380's, SQ do not hand out amenity kits in J - they have amenities stocked in the toilets instead.

The pyjamas that were mentioned are handed out to First Class only - so I would take your own PJ's and ear plugs with you.

You won't get an amenity kit, nor the PJ's. They really work hard to create a differential between J and F on SQ. That said the hard and soft product are very solid. The service has excellent consistency and the food is also the same, typically very good.

You can get ear plugs, eye shades, socks, playing cards, writing paper, postcards, combs, toothbrushes and other stuff from the stewards or in the lavatory. Ask nicely and they might also furnish you with the kit, it worked once for me before.

Enjoy!

I flew Business from AKL-SIN-LHR and all they gave out was a pair of socks! Toothbrushes, combs, aftershave and lotions are available in the bathrooms. postcards, pens etc can be requested from the flight attendants. the headphones are Bose noise reductions and are excellent although the A380 is very quiet all round. As tinkerbelle mentioned before all of what Peter said is only available in The Suites (1st class) although I do recall the Champagne being Dom!

I hope this helps you out and enjoy Business Class, its a great experience and makes Virgin Atlantic Upper class feel like economy!! LOL

Its a couple of years since I flew from MAN-SIN-CHC-SIN-MAN with SQ but was totally blown away with the quality of service and food. No PJs or amenity kit (which always surprises me!) but socks, eye shades handed out and numerous other items available from the crew or in the bathrooms.

The food was superb on all flights, champagne and all other drinks were free-flowing, my glass was never empty!

The food was excellent restaurant quality with a good choice and drinks and refreshments always available. The service was attentive and warm - always addressed by name.

SQ do take some beating in my opinion. Enjoy. y)

Thank you everyone for your input. I'd forgotten of the amenities in the toilets until you all reminded me and also that we had been given an eye-mask and socks but nothing else.

Hi - yes - apologies for not reading the initial email correctly

I saw 'book the cook' and thought of Suites class (not FIRST) as Singapore airlines like to point out...

It's the only A380 experience I've ever had, but as was said before, it must be awesome in all classes. It's like a concert hall full of people on different levels that manages to become airborne...
