Indeed the Fuel Surcharge is more than the APD yet because it is lumped in the 'taxes etc' part it is hidden so the Government gets the blame!
I belive it is essentialy dishonest for an airline to include the fuel surcharge within the 'Taxes etc' part of the fare when it is part of the basic cost of the flight. And just because other airlines do it that way is a pretty poor excuse.
Dishonest that if you cancel a flight they don't refund the fuel surcharge either.
I asked Greg on facebook how VS can charge much lower fares for a flight originating in AMS even though the international leg is on VS. The savings are way more than the APD not being charged. If VS can offer these fares from AMS then they can jolly well offer them from the UK!

Posted: 17 Nov 2011, 16:50I heard the interview. Much play was made that the APD goes straight to government. True. But there again, how quick are airlines to refund APD on cancelled flights.
If APD was abolished, would airfares decrease? If the market is happy with a fare of £200 including APD there is a fair chance (ouch! no pun intended!) that the air fare would stay at ....£200.

Indeed. HAs the fuel surcharge come down to follow oil prices?
How many shops etc actually reduced their prices when VAT was reduced to 15% from 17.5% a couple of years ago yet were quick enough to increase them when VAT went up to 20%
As to WW/SR/MO'L all appearing together - I'm sure I heard a lot of teeth grinding in the background of the news report!
