Returned rental car to Mia with only 18 miles to empty

Whats the record for returning your rental with least amount of fuel?

A few years ago our warning light came on half way along alligator alley which was a bit scary. So the family aren't keen on running the fuel so low.

Wow good result, especially with the traffic around MIA sometimes!

I think the lowest we've ever had has been 50 ish miles!

Isn't this an extremely expensive way of doing it because you get charged £££ for the fuel by the rental company? We always return full.

Not if you've prepaid your fuel or have it as part of a package (ie Alamo Gold) - you take the car back empty and as often in my case, running on fumes as I don't want to put any more petrol in the car than necessary. :)

i always think the 'buy a tank' is a rip off. they charge you for every single drop the tank 'allegedly' holds at a slight premium. best thing is to fill up 10-20 miles from the airport before returning the car.

I always pre-pay my fuel now in certain places as it saves any hassle of stopping near the airport to fill up especially if you are running late. I would never pre-pay in Orlando as the airport is so close to everywhere else that there is an abundance of gas stations everywhere.

I've returned a car at MCO what was running on fumes. Petrol light on from the start of the last day & halfway along the Beachline Expressway to MCO the predicted range on the trip computer went blank (i.e. not enough fuel in the tank for the range to be calculated). We made it back to the Alamo rental car return - anything after that is their problem!

EDIT: To make it clear I was returning a car, not someones pet cat at MCO :|

Last week on our return to mco we were running with the petrol light on all day, didn't want to risk it, so I pulled in and put
in 2 dollars (don't know if that really did anything though). Did over 1400 in 10 days in the dodge nitro. Not the best car we have had

We returned the car in August to MIA and the man at Dollar said he didn't know how it had managed to get into the airport.
The worst bit was, just outside of the the airport we were stuck in traffic on a hill and really did not think it would make it(5 miles left at this time). John was being called a few choice names at this point!

His famous last words were "I told you it would make it".

I can beat that.

Hired a car in Barbados 3yrs ago and prepaid half a tank of fuel and told to return it empty.

The car was delivered to our hotel on the West Coast and was being collected at the end of the 2nd day.

I had 4mls left on the clock at the end of the 2nd day, and then I left the engine running for 20mins in the hotel car park till it ran dry. Left the keys with hotel reception for the collection man.

Bet he had a nice little walk to the petrol station!

Harsh!! I'd have been satisfied with the 4 miles left! :0
