Hotels in San Diego

Have a trip booked to San Diego early March with flights to SFO and Virgin America down to SAN.

Looking to book 3 nights in San Diego and wanted some advice about hotels. Usually go for Hiltons or Starwoods for the points but keen to be reasonably close to the conference centre.

The Hilton Bayfront looks good and convenient but pricey. Have also looked at US Grant and also a fan of W Hotel's but the W looks a bit out of the way?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hilton Gaslamp, easy walking to the conference centre and to lots of restaurants on 5th Avenue. Not sure if this will be much cheaper though.

Hi there, we did exactly the same trip as yourself in Feb 2010.

After a brilliant 5 days in the wonderful city of
San Fransisco we too flew down with virgin American to San Diego.

We stayed at the 4* Omni Hotel located in the heart of the historic Gaslamp Quarter and it was across from the convention center. There is a train stop right near to the hotel, so access to attractions was so easy. Really lovely hotel and this area will tick your boxes.

If you like the water, take a whale watch trip (we didn't see one!) from the Harbour, it was really interesting and you see some spectacular scenery. We also like walking around the Seaport Village, good for casual dining. All this within easy walking distance to the hotels around the Gaslamp area :) Hev

Thanks Hev. Also planning couple of days in SFO on way back, really looking forward to it.

The Omni is full the week I'm there. Guess you don't spend too much time in the hotel and the city looks great. Will think about sending my first trip report!

Hi there

we tend to use the Embassy Suites, which is within a very short walking distance to the gas light area, the conference centre and the trolley station

We have stayed At the Hilton gaslamp, our rooms have been in the lofts, which is the hotel within the hotel. The spa suites are fantastic (jacuzzi for2).

Great location lots of restaurants / bars within walking distance
