Getting to LHR

I know theres been a similar subject around about, but I don't think its the same.

Just finishing off plans to fly from LHR, and seeing about getting there. I thought it would be nice to stay in Paddington to get some entertainment options the night before, and take the Heathrow Express in. But my word, 34 quid return for a standard ticket, overpriced to say the least... Still, hotel is booked now, so I guess thats that.

However, I know from others (and I found out the St Pancras to LGW service which saved me using the Gatwick Express) on the thread, that the underground to Heathrow isn't that bad. Whats the likely price per person on the day? How long does it take from Kings Cross, say?

Other options I've thought of was getting to Windsor of an evening, and taxi'ing it in. I know from years ago when I went to computer courses near Windsor that it isn't far from Heathrow. Anyone done that?

Reading is another option, we have friends down there, and there's the bus to heathrow from there... Anyone done it that way? Takes how long?

You can get the Heathrow Connect from Paddington to LHR from Paddington. It takes a little longer but is about 1/2 of the price of the HEX.

Check on http://www.nationalrail.co.uk

Tube takes about an hour from central London. Cost depends if you have an oyster card or pay by cash and if you travel in peak hours. From Paddington get the circle line to South Kensington or district line to Earls court and change for the Picadilly line.

Vote here for Heathrow Connect if you don't want to splash out on the HEX. Tube would be long, over an hour on a good day.

Yeah always go for the Heathrow connect now, every half hour it goes and takes half hour (instead of every 15 minutes and taking 15 for the express!) unless things have gone wrong and I need to hurry!

If you're trundling luggage I'd avoid the underground option. Getting from A to B often involves more walking than you'd think...
