Best Way of Getting Into Central London from LHR after 11pm

I have a friend who's arriving with a party of 9 others into LHR landing @ 11pm. He's understandably nervous about managing to get the last tube out.
Had he asked earlier I would have recommended an airport hotel overnight and then into London in the next am. However, he didn't. Can anyone suggest a cost effective alternative?
Thanks
Paul

This may sound obvious, but maybe a taxi? I am sure between 9, it won't work out too much.

There is also the N9 night bus that runs every 20 mins between LHR and Aldwych.
Not sure how long it takes, how much it costs or maybe more importantly what the risks are! :0

a single on a bus anywhere in london is £2.30 if you pay by cash or £1.35 if you have a TFL Oyster card.
the timetable for the N9 is
HERE or is available via
http://www.tfl.gov.uk if my link has not worked.

The last tube from T3 is at 00:22 Monday to Saturday night, earlier on Sunday.
Obviously have to get there in time to get tickets and get on before it departs.
If no one has an Oyster card, single tickets into London for ten will be £53! (£5.30 each)

It's got to be about 10 years ago but I took the N9 at about 5am and it was fine at that time...! Didn't take too long, probably about an hour-ish?
