Has any of the Vegas regulars here stayed at the Monte Carlo hotel? Any tips or comments that you could give me, as I will be staying there for the last week in October?
Many thanks

Hi paddyc

I stayed there back in April '97, about 6 months after it first opened.

The rooms were OK, clean and tidy a decent size and room service was fast and friendly.

The casino is a fair size (although the machines were very 'tight1'), and towards the back they have their own 'micro-brewery':D,you can get a sample of all the brews that they do. Unfortunatelly, I didn't like any of them[:(], so I had to stick with my usual MGD. There is usually some form of free live entertainment in the bar aswell.

The buffet was fairly good and reasonably priced. There is also a food court there with a McDonalds and a few other fast food outlets. There are also a few other resturaunts, but we did not get around to trying any of them.

The Theatre was home to the illusionist 'Lance Burton', but we didn't get around to seeing him either!

There was also a monorail connection to the 'Bellagio', but I think this is closed at the moment.

I'm sure someone who has stayed there more recently will have some more info for you.

Rich.

P.S. If you have time, I would go and see 'The Blue Man Group' who are playing at the'Luxor'. We saw them on our visit last November and can highly reccommend them, although the show is quite loud, and there is an element of 'crowd participation!'

The monorail is closed until they complete the new tower at the bellagio, But you can use the new one that goes from the MGM Grand.

Another thing they have there is a chocolate factory:D and they cant stop giving it away.

Cheers

Phil

Stayed there a few times before I went posh and moved to the Bellagio.

Positives:

- Fantastic location
- best casino on strip (in terms of blackjack selection at $5, and the amount I have won on their slots)
- Monorail to Bellagio (reopens December?)
- great bagel place for brekker
- brewpub wheat beer!
- very easy to navigate
- cheap

Negatives

- pool is crap, concretey (is that a word?), and crowded
- other restaurants not great
- rooms average
- Lance Burton is a redneck tw@t.

Is that because he gave all those "magic secrets" away:D

Prof, your comment about the pool is a bit concerning, as we do like to spend a bit of time here during the day. Can you be more specific?
As for the Lance Burton comment - why don't you say what you really think!!:D:D:D:D

We stayed at Monte Carlo last January, it was one of the few LAS hotels that had the pool open 'out of season' (Ya know 'cos it's sooo cold there in January at 80 degrees!!! ) :D

There are 3 pools, one for swimming up and down, one with a small wave type thing going on (great fun) and one that's sort of thin and goes round in a winding sort of circle thing, a bit like a lazy river... it's hard to describe! Anyway there are places you can set up camp by the pools but in addition there is a huge concrete bit towards the back of the pool area that has a couple of waterfall features.

There's a bar and there are some soft drink machines dotted about.

I think it was pretty good as pools go, I could name worse and if you want concrete you should see the Aladdin! Most of the places we've stayed in LAS have had busy pools (and we've stayed at a few!)

The Monte Carlo overall is a reasonable hotel and we've stayed a couple of times and got a good price.

We only ever stay a few days in LAS, and there is SO much to do that we don't spend that much time in the room or the hotel where we are staying, so as long as it's clean and reasonable what they hey :D

Hope you have a great time.

Cheers
Shaz

Thank you very much Shaz, your comments are reassuring.
2 years ago we stayed at the MGM Grand - partly because of the pool area (I have 2 kids now aged 11 and 6) and was very disappointed to find out that the majority of pools (including the lazy river) only opened at the weekend. Hence the reason for looking at the Monte Carlo this time.

Thanks again[8D]

A few years back I was more than happy with the MC pool, however since then I have been fooled by the peacful elegance of the Bellagio, and the 'hip'ness of Moorea at Mandalay Bay.

It should be fine during the week, but will likely be rammed on the weekend.

Couldn't agree more about the Moorea, we were there a few weeks ago. (and to whoever previously posted on this forum the short cut from THEhotel to the pool THANKS! it cut out treking through the casino in my flip flops :D )

We also love the Hard Rock pool, but to be honest we only go for a couple of hours early morning before it gets too hot (and busy), I'm too pale to be out in the blazing Vegas sun :D

Sigh....though I'd give anything to be there again now [:(]

Was at the Monte Carlo in February and was very happy with the place - esp. with the deal we got when booking directly through their website. They seem to offer good value compared to the other hotels nearby and the location on the strip is perfect!

Didn't try the pool - I'm not one for lazing about near water! - but the casino floor was very good I found. Even playing $5 dollar blackjack saw a steady stream of cocktail offers as I played and the slots seemed about the same as other strip machines.

The Brew Pub as mentioned is very nice if you like your beers, although the live music they had on in the evenings was way too loud; something of a bugbear of mine since it's bit hard to socialise and chat if you're having to shout over the din :)

In all, we enjoyed our stay there and I hope you do, too!
