Help For My Aged Folks - Liverpool Airport/Docks

Both my parents turn 65 next year so are off on a cruise up to Russia and St Petersburg. They are not going until May 2013 but like to get everything organised early.

They are leaving from Liverpool Docks and set sail at 5pm.

The only slight niggle is that they live in Javea, Spain and so are flying into Liverpool. From what I know, EasyJet are the only airline servicing that route from Alicante to Liverpool and they flight lands near midnight. They are good travellers but they are an “old” pair of 65 years olds and my dear Mum is worrying about where they can stay. She is slightly wobbly on her legs and they would rather not have to travel miles out to stay at a hotel.

Does anyone have any experiences of Liverpool airport or the Liverpool docks? Are there any hotels near by?

Thanks, in advance, for any help. :D

I've used the holiday inn at Speke near the airport and found it to be good value for money. They only have showers in the rooms rather than bath tubs so that might be preferable for them so they don't have to climb in and out of the tub.

Liverpool Airport is actually in Speke and is about a twenty minute taxi ride into Liverpool. I assume they are going from the new cruise terminal by the Pier Head?

If it were me I would head off to the new Hilton Hotel by Liverpool One, which is just across the road (they would probably still need to find a way of getting to the terminal if they have bags they can't carry themselves).

With a 5 pm departure, they should have time to have a later breakfast and and explore the Albert Dock and the Beatles Museum as long as they are not TOO doddery. If i had time to kill I would rather be city centre than out in Speke.

As mentioned Liverpool airport is out at Speke, i flew into there a few months ago and it cost me about £20 for a taxi to the Albert dock.

Lots of hotels there, Holiday Inn/Premier lodge towards the budget end, Hilton as mentioned across the road, which is very nice and attached to Liveprool 1 shopping centre.

I quite like the Staybridge suites in the Albert dock. not too pricey and you get a suite with lounge area/kitchen and some have separate bedrooms.

Any of the above hotels will keep their bags for them after they check out if they go off exploring for a few hours before boarding, and theres plenty to do in the dock area for those few hours.

Agree with other comments re the Hilton, it is across the road from Albert Docks and connected to the central area shopping/entertainment area so plenty to occupy your parents whilst waiting to join their cruise.
Alternatively there is a Hampton Inn literally across the road from the terminal at the airport. No hassle to find after a late flight but nothing much to do during the day except watch the planes! Understand that Ryanair also fly from Alicante to Liverpool if you dare! ?|
