Amex Platinum benefits

Considering moving to Amex Platinum, particularly considering the bonus miles for a modest initial spend. The clincher would be the comped Marco Polo Gold status but I can find no mention of this on the application page and fear it is no longer available. Anyone know differently - a web search has drawn a blank for me.

It's still there, but advertised for just one year, though people are being renewed it seems after the fist year.

Cathay Pacific – The Marco Polo Club

Enjoy one year membership to The Marco Polo Club Gold and oneworld® Sapphire tiers. Main Cardmember only.

This is listed on the benefits site that you log into to sign up for the benefits.

Any questions about the card, or if you would like a referral, ask away! :D

There are loads of discussions about it on the Amex board on Flyertalk - that is always a great source for info about all things Amex

Thanks for the replies

Happy to take a recommendation as long as I can still get Quidco cashback!

Worth weighing that up against a referral route and gaining 40k miles...
Appreciate you've had an offer below..

Would that be in addition to the bonus points for the initial £2000 spend? If so it would be a no brainer versus Quidco cashback of £80.

Sorry my mistake, you'd get 52k on 2k spend in first 3mths...assume you'd get standard 1xmiles on the 2k spend as well

well worthwhile... :w

NH
(another doctory household.. :w ): )

Letter on joint branded paper from Cathay/Amex yesterday: "As a Platinum Cardmember you have been recognised as a Gold Tier member, irrespective of the number of Club Miles or Sectors you've flown each year. This is now changing, as we are introducing new membership tier requirements for Platinum Cardmembers. From 31 Dec 2013 until 31 Dec 2014 you will need to accrue 30,000 Club Miles or 20 Club Sectors to retain your Gold membership for tier status.

Although you still have six months left on your current membership, we are pleased to tell you that we are extending your complimentary Gold membership for a further six months. This means your new membership expiry date now 31 Dec 2014,"

Shame really as having the One World Sapphire was great for getting into BA Terraces in recent years....ah well all good things come to an end!

IMHO Amex plat well worth it for any corporate traveller who can't guarantee carrier choice. Access to all us lounges via plat card. Most others due to PP. And oneworld via Cathay card.

I have zero issues meeting the generous low renewal mileage on the latter. It is after all only 3 long hauls on average.

Does plat give access to all US lounges, I wasn't aware?

The OP perhaps references US Airways lounges where you don't need to be flying with US if you have the Amex.

They didn't renew my Cathay Pacific card this year, I asked amex and they say now its only for one year.

To me the great benefit was also Hilton Gold Card, initially for one year, but I don't think you get it at all anymore. Got some great upgrades from that. I used the SPG to book once, and got a nice hotel, but never sure if it was an upgrade...

Further devaluing:
Effective 31 March 2014, one-year membership of the Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Club will no longer be available for new enrolments.

Just got notified today that my membership has been extended by a further 6 months to end January 2015. ( I had 6 months left )

Between now and then you need 30,000 club miles or 20 club sectors to retain gold.

So a little better than I first thought.

Yep likewise, probably a way of softening bad news.

Weird, my membership finished about december and they downgraded me to the crappy status, sounds like around the same time period but I didn't get any extension. Didn't fly on it though, not even on BA during that period.
