Hello, our annual policy with HSBC expired a few months ago, and now we have a trip to the US approaching, we're looking for a new policy. We don't think the VS Black AMEX policy has much weight.

I'm not sure if we'd go for annual or single trip, but I'd be very grateful if anyone has any recommendations for insurance providers?

I just baled out of my last policy to go with a "Top Dog Premier" Annual Insurance policy. I found it on http://www.moneysupermarket.com.

It's the only one of a few that gives a low excess and a decent price.

But, the main reason I chose it is because you are covered for missed departure if you are delayed by a motor accident in front of you, whilst you are en route to your point of departure, if travelling otherwise than on public transport (ie: your own car or a friends/neighbours/relative).

Most policies only cover you if the vehicle you are travelling in is involved in an accident.

A big difference.

Probably not much help to you, but we found out that our Direct Line house insurance gives us worldwide annual travel insurance free of charge. I was initially suspicious but after ringing them to clarify, it's the same family policy and cover that I was previously paying over £200 for.

Same here, although luckily we have not had to claim so no idea how good they really are!

Recently got a policy from Columbus Direct. Identified it via money saving supermarket then did it via quidco and got some cashback

I used to have a club direct policy but when I went to restart/renew in December after a gap they said the old policy I had was no longer provided and the replacement was almost double.

I just use the Halifax annual travel insurance that comes with my Halifax Ultimate Rewards current account.

Never needed to claim on it though so really couldn't say if it's any good or not!
