According to
this the plan is for an interim fix that would contain any fire whilst a more long term fix is devised.
But apparently the FAA is skeptical

Boeing and any operator with 787s on order or standing on the Tarmac must be seriously worried by these problems. Solutions all seem stop gap and the traveling public will not have much confidence in boarding one when they are eventually cleared for take off again.
The obvious solution would be to ditch the lithium-ion and return to last generation (Duracell) but this is not likely! It seems that Boeing have not been able to replicate the serious flaw in testing and presumably it never occurred before certification, perhaps the 787 will do for America what the problems with the Comet did for Britain and Airbus will benefit?
Would any V-flyer feel totally confident boarding before a totally cast iron fix has been implemented?
