Seeing pics on twitter from people who were on the aircraft. Two points:
1) if I was on the aeroplane I wouldn't be snapping photos, I'd be getting as far away as possible before the aircraft fire worsens.
2) I can't believe the selfishness of people who are carrying their hand luggage in plain disregard for the safety instructions and the ability of those behind them who will be wanting to get off in a hurry too.

The pictures on sky news are horrid. Front half of the fuselage is completely burnt. Tail missing. Port engine missing, I really hope everyone got off ok.

So far no fatalities being reported with one critical and others with burns.
The word miracle gets over used in the media but seems to be very appropriate in this case.

CNN have pictures of debris on the threshold of the runway, including signs of contact on the rocks that are on the edge of SFO by the bay. I wonder if they landed short and clipped the rocks.
Awful pictures - hope all are ok.

Very reminiscent of BA038 but apparently Asiana use Pratt & Whitney engines.

ATC of the incident
here - no emergency declared prior to the incident.
Still very early but some suggestions that it came in short and hit the stone sea wall. Now suggestions there are 2 fatalities, still unconfirmed at this stage though.

watching CNN live....the usual mixture of eye witness reports, the plane has definitely lost its tail, engines are off, but reports of wings being ripped off aren't correct. further reports of plane 'cartwheeling' seem unlikely from the damage I can see. the top part of the front half of the cabin is gone and looks like it is fire damage. another report of one PAX being rescued by the coastguard from the bay...
as at240 posts it does look like it may have clipped the rocks and landed short of the runway..............
the idiots taking hand luggage and then pictures,,,,,,,,,,,crazy !!

Seems BA's 285 was diverted to SEA, BA287 to YVR. Both are supposedly still scheduled to depart later today bound for SFO...
Eye witness on CNN seems to confirm explanation that the Asiana plane clipped the runway on landing. Looks terrible from the news coverage.

Looking on Planefinder, VS19 has changed course and looks to be heading to LAS instead.

Nobody knows for certain, it is far to early to say for certain, and it will be a while before anything is confirmed.
Right now it is only eye witness reports and 'experts' opinions and thoughts.
