We're travelling to Vegas later this year and were thinking about flying to Salt Lake City as a side trip. Have any of you been? If so, what area would you recommend staying in, in order to be fairly central?

I used to go to SLC every year for a conference - last time was 2005 though, so things might've changed a bit (apprently the alcohol laws have!).

As the conference was in the Salt Palace Convention Center, I tended to stay quite close - The Shilo Inn and the Wyndham (now a Radison). Downtown is probably an ok location for getting around from anyway (the Gateway mall is just down the road) - but like I say, I wasn't exactly being all touristy!

Have a look at the Visit Salt Lake website to see if that helps.

Finally - ensure you go to Squatters for a decent beer or two, or three..... y)
