First time a TSA agent was killed in the line of duty and the fact someone was able to make it to the security screening area with a gun drawn in a US airport is pretty newsworthy.

When was the last time you went through an international hub in the US without seeing police kerbside and patrolling check-in? Isn't there also a heavy armed security presence in the security area? Even in the UK we have police armed with MP5s wandering around the checkin and departure areas.

By the look of news today, the DA is going to be seeking the death penalty..

Hmm. Once we accept that kind of reasoning we may as well give up.

But it does seem like the gun (lack of) control lobby is untouchable.

There is/was zero armed presence, other than normal police patrols, at SFO screening/security areas (as it was in the afternoon after the LAX incident, I was expecting a bit of gun waving by LEO) on Friday afternoon. So, Friday to answer your question.

My point is this: with the lack of any form of meaningful gun control, any incident like this in the US is to be expected and it is only time before the next. Then the next. Then the next. While they cling to their "right to bear arms" this will just repeat ad infinitum.

Huh, I've clearly had different experiences. A hole in security that will no doubt be addressed given time.

Ahh the gun control debate.... perhaps they should hold people to the true spirit behind the 'right to bear arms' and allow only single shot, muzzle loading muskets on the streets... that could be amusing/tragic.

At this stage de-escalation is tricky, not impossible, but damned tricky.. It will also be a political death sentence for congress as things currently stand and I don't associate politicians with acts of such self sacrifice.

Why kind of situation leads someone to be that angry with the TSA? And what kind of society we live in.
But a sad incident indeed
I want to visit NYC again one day (its been over 10years since) but not feeling super confident tbh
