Vino Logistics

Have a friend who's looking to move to NZ, however has a wine collection which they want to take with. Knowing I frequent flying type forums, asked for some pointers.... :w

handful of 12 bottle cases, we're not talking pallets
doing the unusual run of UK to NZ (most wine travels the opposite way)
Can't put in with normal shipping crate as it'll cook on route.. :$
Too much to do in normal luggage.

Assume airlines would deal with personal freight? fragile perishable stuff?
Expensive?
Shipping company's are that savvy with this and drawing blanks so far?
God knows where to start with this one..

Anyone any ideas... :?

A tricky little question and it is heavily dependent on the airline.

Who are they flying with?

To answer your questions though:
-Personal freight is perfectly fine (VS and ANZ take it).. just check with whichever airline they are looking to fly.
- Fragile and perishable goods are transferred easily.. the climate control in the holds and cargo containers are very flexible.
- Expensive?? Possibly, how many cases we talking here? Your friend will also need to think about insurance.. Depending on quantity and airline it could be a simple case of excess baggage marked as perishable and fragile. There are also customs duties to consider depending on size and contents of this 'collection'.
-If you are looking to do air freight best place to start is with the airline that you are looking to fly with.... or V-flyer :P

Ta, think they'll need to speak to airline direct and price up moving a case as "extra" luggage.. Anyone else done this successfully?
Slinky I believe has moved some from SFO?

Get your friend to apply some lateral thinking, only a few cases? |:)
Throw a party for close acquaintances, making sure you are invited, have a great night. :$
