Dear Gurus oo)
I'm hoping one of the learned v-Flyers will be able to let me know if there is any advantage transferring my Avios to BA or vice versa.
I have a number of miles in both & am thinking of amalgamating.
Thanks in advance & no, I won't transfer them to any of you

I don't think it matters - in as much as you can always transfer between programmes when you need to.
So for example, Avios offers redemptions on Eurostar whereas BA does not.
An amazing blog is Head For Points which goes into this is detail.

Bit confused here
I thought avios points is the name for BA FF program?

I think there are 3 iterations in all:-
1) Avios (as in Avios.com)
2) BA Exec Club
3) Iberia FF
I believe you can move between them all (I certainly have between Avios.com and BA Exec Club) depending on differing availability.
Sealink is right - no need to amalgamate as transfers are instantaneous if I recall.

Thanks for clearing that up
I may get a BA exec club account one day but will be keeping my pints on my Amex card until I can actually utilise them

You will have to use glasses with very slim stems to balance many pints on your Amex card gfonk !

I have seen anecdotal tales over on FT that the Avios and BAEC flight inventory can sometimes vary, and you can pick up flights on one site that are not available on the other.
At the moment, all my miles are on the BA side because being AU, I *should* definitely have a better shot with them. But I make a point of checking both sides nonetheless.
Believe you can transfer pretty instantaneously anyway in case the situation does arise. My advice would be to at least keep both accounts open.

I believe there are sometimes advantages to having an avios account in addition to a BAEC one. I can't recall the details but it does come up on FT, as ratechaser says -- I think he is right that inventory sometimes differs.

I saw this very thing today.
I was looking for flights to Menorca in the summer (Mrs S fancied a 2 hr flight rather than 9 hrs in Club - go figure !) and Avios had 7 seats whereas BA had 5 on the outbound. On the return BA had 1, but Avios had 0.
These Reward Saver seats are really good - 15k miles plus £35. Not too shabby and makes using miles on Economy much more palatable.

Dear All
Thanks for the replies, really appreciated. I have made an executive decision on behalf of the current husband & I to do nothing because it seems the wisest choice.
Happy flying.
