Air Canada or BA to Vancouver

Having decided not to go to the Maldives for my significant birthday celebration in April 2015 I now need some advice on flights to Vancouver to pick up a cruise. Unfortunately the VS flights to Vancouver do not operate in April so I guess we have a choice between Air Canada & BA, I have never flown Air Canada & it has probably been 15 tears since I have flown BA. We will be flying business class & would appreciate any feed back on the offerings from these two airlines, from a quick look at the airlines web sites my initial preference is towards Air Canada.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you

As always - it depends on what you're looking for.

In Club World / Executive First (AC) then AC's seat (in my view) has the edge - it's longer, and less coffin-like, to spend 12 hours in. Same herringbone layout as VS, but without a flip-bed, so you get the lumps (the same as BA).

BUT... Their service is sometimes awful. Uninterested cabin crew, etc. BA may be robotic, but at least it's reliable and consistent. On a positive, coming back into T3 with Air Canada you would have access to their Maple Leaf arrivals lounge for a shower.

AC for the much better seat and cabin layout as P says. Expect US legacy carrier like cabin crew and awful lounges in Canada.

If VS tier points/miles are desired then how about VS to LAX and then DL to YVR?

Or even DL LHR-SEA-YVR, which would be a shorter journey and still (in DL Business Class) get you into the Clubhouse.

Happy 21st oldboy!

My experience of BA is limited to short haul. And I've no experience of AC. However, I was in Cuba a couple of years back and got chatting to some Canadians. We got on to talking about airlines and to a man/woman, they all derided AC. That said, those that travelled towards the pointy end did like the layout. There's a lot to be said for direct-aisle access and not having to clamber/be clambered over your fellow pax.

That reminds me: has anyone here had experience of having loud, obnoxious neighbours?

No? Well it seems the Canadians have a lot of experience... ;-)

Many thanks, I am leaning towards BA at present, once flights are released price will be the deciding factor.

I have only had one experience of an obnoxious passenger, 15 or more years ago my wife & I were flying BA Club to St Lucia, our flight was delayed for 10 hours, when we eventually boarded all but one passenger were just happy to finally be on our way to our holidays. As the aircraft taxied one chap (also in Club & very drunk)was out of his seat & walking around shouting about how disgusting the delay was, he had spent £x on seats for himself & family etc, the crew got him back in his seat, I think they secured him there in some way, fortunately he then went to sleep & remained quiet once he woke, his family were understandably furious with him, a member of the crew told us that if it hadn't been for the long delay passengers had already experienced the captain would have returned to the stand an offloaded him.
