Not till next year but:
We will be landing at MCO late afternoon and staying in the Hyatt for one night before driving. Will be returning the car in the afternoon so I'll be paying an extra day anyway.
Question is: can I choose a car and collect the keys on the day we arrive and not drive out until the following morning?

Just trying to give myself the best choice of car.
I tried an email on Alamo site but it wouldn't send.

I would say this would not be feasible.

The process at Alamo is once you have completed the paperwork then you go across to the garage and select your vehicle from those available in your chosen category and things are finally completed when you present your documents and this is then checked against the vehicle.

In the past when I have stayed at an Airport hotel at MCO, picking up the car the next day has been a dream as the VS passenger wave has long since gone and more importantly your mind is fresh to make any decisions on upgrades etc

That's what I've done in the past. This year I wanted a Jeep but in the morning they didn't have any and I ended up with a Ford Edge. It was OK but not what I wanted. I think 2007 was the last time I actually got the car I wanted and not an 'or similar'
It's not always a bad thing. 2009 I had booked Cadillac DTS from Savannah but the only two they had were both in accidents. I had a Nissan Murano for 4 days then swapped for a Caddy SRX which converted us from saloon cars to 4x4s.
Now a proud Jeep owner and want to try a new one.

Like Buns says, most car hire companies now complete the transaction at the final gate/barrier, so there will be no way to guarantee a specific vehicle unless you take it out of the parking lot.

It really is pot luck as to what vehicles are around at what time, you could go straight after your flight and there be no Jeeps, but then 5 could come back at 10pm and be available if you went early in the morning.
