I don't know if anyone else has had an email from Accor Hotels. I'm a member of their loyalty scheme but with no accrued points or status, but I still get the occasional marketing mail.

They are offering up to 50% discount at worldwide hotels, book before August 28th. Different regions have different restrictions on travel dates, for UK and Ireland it's 19th December to 13th April 2015, and 40% off. Sofitel chain is included, including Heathrow and you don't have to be a member of the loyalty scheme. The offer is bringing up Heathrow Sofitel at £105 for weekend nights, and £160 for a weeknight at beginning of April (I have a habit of booking travel for Fridays making Thursday the night at the hotel, but I'd pay that, though obvs would prefer the lower rate!).

This is the link for anyone interested:

Cheers,
John

Decisions decisions.
I just checked the Sofitel at Gatwick for my Feb date and I can have room only for £103 pay now. We are also Friday flyers.
If I want breakfast included it jumps to a flexible rate of £156.
Do I need breakfast when I'm going into the Clubhouse?
Will Virgin move to the North terminal before February?
I have enough Avios miles to use the Hilton, should I just book that and get a train if they move?
Dick D (I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure.)

Lol Dicky, well I don't bother with breakfast if I'm going to be in the clubhouse in the morning as there's so much food available. It's only a short ride between the terminals too, as you know. I'd say go for it!

Sofitel is the best hotel at Gatwick, with the best asian restaurant in the airport also. It's super easy to transit from one terminal to another with the train (much quicker than the heathrow express).

I agree, skip breakfast at the hotel and eat in the clubhouse. Free and in my experience better and a more calm affair.

No, certainly not. The clubhouse breakfast is excellent and you can have seconds! So have tea/coffee and biccys in your room, check out, and head for the clubhouse.

Unimportant. The interconnecting train thingy runs every two or three minutes and takes only a minute or so and the terminal is right beside the Sofitel. I suggest you wholly disregard North vs. South in your decision.

If you want to stay for "free" vs. paying Accor's discounted rate, then stay at the Hilton. If you want to save your Avios and take advantage of the Accor discount, stay at the Sofitel. Again - disregard any North vs. South factor; it's irrelevant.
