Afternoon all,

Just found some blinding CW fares to JNB ex AMS on Expedia, can you upgrade these fares to First with Avios (showing as I fares)?

I would,t think so, think they have to originate in your country of residence, unless you are doing a flight to include the UK as an original departure point.

The flights I'm looking at are
AMS-LHR then LHR-JNB

Oh well regardless if I can upgrade or not I just booked up

AMS-JNB in CW £1444pp in November.

I will cancel my VS reward and get £400 and 90,000 miles back pp too.

Just we're been waiting ages for G's to come up for the return leg and got bored last night so had a little play around on Expedia and these came up, earns us a fair few Avios and TP's and it's on an A380 LHR-JNB-LHR y) "winning'

that sounds like a plan!!
unfortunately for us VS forced us to go blue! so we have no choice!
but hey who knows, we may go to USA some time in next year or so, so we may still get to experience VS.

In terms of possible upgrades, I am not confident of fare classes etc.

However, if you go into MMB on BA.COM you'll see that you can examine all upgrade options online....it's a 21st century website!!!

I thought with a travel agent booking they referred you back to the agent? Same with VS.

Certainly has been the case with my recent booking DXB-LHR-AMS-LHR-DXB for Christmas - slightly worried about the terrible lounges that BA have a reputation for and horrible cabin layout. On my sectors F was full :0 .

Ah, didn' register that it is a travel agent booking - in that case, you are correct MMB won't allow these options.

BA terrible cabin layout? Well, I guess that's in the eye of the beholder.

BA lounges? They certainly aren't top of the range, and few lounges will come close to VS CH at LHR, but it's horses for courses - it doesn't matter as much to me as I look to minimise time at the airport. As long as a lounge is comfortable, reasonably civilised and has drinks/snacks available, I'm happy!

I get what you are saying but my connection is 5hrs - not really long enough to venture into London and too long to spend in a lounge that just has afternoon tea and no hot food at my time of arrival. Reports of people 'nipping out to a restaurant' really aren't what you'd expect from a full service airline lounge.

Also climbing over peoples legs, facing someone with the divider down, no duvet on a night flight - it all seems a bit 1990s! I guess the point is that they keep the things I require for 1st class passengers; unlike VS.

Try not to worry about club world i think if you go with a positive attitude you may even enjoy your flight, for starters choose an isle seat therefore no need to step over anyone.
Then once your sat down its perfectly acceptable to raise the divider, if the other person hasnt already done this before you arrived ofcourse?
You obviously will get a duvet and pillow so no reason to worry about them either, so all in all you have have a very pleasant flight.

For CW - I like the step over seats personally - if sleeping, the privacy the cabin brings gives you a better sleep. I try to pick a window rear-facing if needing to sleep on a flight.

Bear in mind BA (were/are) offering free one way first upgrades with a booked CW seat in certain classes direct a week or two ago (no clue if on now).

Im pretty sure the booking class for this promo is a semi flexible code or maybe even fully flexible making it pretty expensive for most people except business travellers payed for by their companies.

Yeah I'm not expecting a free upgrade to First as I booked a really cheap fare from Expedia.
