American Airlines to LAX

Of course, I'd prefer the 380 on BA, but a few K difference might make it a no no. I never keep track of the transcon stuff like AA/United because I never reckoned I'd need to. But I might be on the AA to LAX (and on to Honolulu) one time. Service ok? Seats ok? Am I going to be buying my own drinks and IFE?

What flight are you on? And what class did you book?

Do you know the aircraft type?

Just quickly glancing at their site, it appears LHR-LAX is currently operated by a 773 and they are touting their First class "Suites". Obviously never flown it but doesn't look half bad if that's what you're on.

LHR-LAX on an AA 777 (773 is the latest and best version) is a very good way to go. The suites are huge, they recline into substantial beds, and the service is what you might expect for a US first class product. It's way superior to domestic first so don't compare the two.

I last used some Avios on an AA first LHR-LAX a couple of years ago and my recollection as follows:

- The seat is great. It swivels from forward facing to window facing to work using a very large work area, and that's pretty cool. The is plenty of space although it's not the most private of cabins.
- Service is very good but in no way matches a good VS crew in Upper. Food is good and plentiful, drinks a bit better than VS (although pre-flight champagne was then served in plastic glasses).
- IFE is excellent with a great selection of classic movies in addition to newer releases.
- The first lounges at LHR and LAX are so so but OK to spend a little time in. If you're travelling first you should be able to try Galleries First at LHR too but at LAX you're in the AA terminal so only their lounge (which has nice views though).

If you have the miles and can't run to BA First on the A380 then I'd certainly give it a go.

Also keep in mind that while you mentioned transcon in your post, their First class international service is different from even their brand new transcon service with lie flat beds and the like.

Thanks, passed on it in the end, didn't suit the dates. With more flexibility, I will try and get on the early 380 flight, the days it flies...
