V-Flyer

Looking at the BA TP runs, and positioning at Dublin.

I would previously have favoured Aer Lingus before, with a snack and stuff, but it appears to have changed to mimic ryanair. Any particularly reason to choose one over the other apart from price? One by Aer Lingus seems to be run by something called Stobart Air, and takes 20 minutes longer... I'm wondering if its an old prop plane....

Depends where you are flying from?

Ryanair might be cheaper flight price wise but might cost you more in ££ or time to get to their departure point - LGW? STN? Luton?

Birmingham to Dublin, so pretty much spot to spot.

Would be an old Aer Arann/Air Lingus Regional Aircraft now operated by Stobart Air, Will be an ATR 42 or 72

Personally id go with Ryanair, We use them all the time and cant fault them at all

Its not a business class and they dont claim it to be though??

Yeah, I know.

But just that they'll use that phrase to describe the basics you get with pretty much any other airline....

Then again, I did Wizzair to Romania the other week, and the priority seating got me the extra legroom right up the front, and middle seat unused, that and 32Kg luggage allowance of the baggage in the hold, kind of competes with Club Europe for about 25 quid more...

If you're talking about a flight operated by Stobart Air on turbo-props, then that's Aer Lingus Regional with flights from Dublin and Cork to some of the UK airports. Mainstream Aer Lingus use A320s.

I use Aer Lingus all the time, many because my flights are to LHR or points on mainland Europe served by Aer Lingus from Cork or Dublin. The only time I use Ryanair is to go to LGW (which is not served by Aer Lingus from Cork) It's a most satisfactory airline for short-haul even though food is BOB. The crew are generally very friendly and less interested in earning commission with on-board sales like their opposite numbers on Ryanair and they fly to the cities' main airports, unlike Ryanair.

Of course, there is only one airport in Dublin though, right?

I'm concerned since I have heard Charleroi airport referred to as Brussels South, I'd imagine Cork being Dublin south...

It sounds like the Stobbart is the prop planes which used to do BHX-Cork route when I used to fly it, under the Jersey European name (might have become flybe in some way).

Stobart took over Aer Arann, not Jersey European and fly TR72s. They fly from Cork to MAN, BHX, EDI, BRS and other regional airports that I can't be bothered to look up on the grounds that I have had a couple or three glasses of wine! :w Stobart Air is the same company as Eddie Stobart, the haulage company.

Come to think of it I would choose Aeroflot, Egypt Air, Kenya Airways and MyTravelLite (4 worst airline experiences ever) over Ryanair as well!

Have only ever heard good things about Jet Blue from other V-flyers and friends who have flown them.

I have had to fly JetBlue twice, due to cancelled flights from other airlines and to me, they seems no different to anyone else. It was a short hop granted but in no way was my food brought to me by a game keeper and left in the aisle for us all to fight over and then returned to my cage.

Without going OT, I would say that JetBlue is the best US domestic carrier I've used.

34" pitch even in economy, free snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, free TV and one free checked bag. Plus reasonable upgrades to 'even more space' with 38" pitch and speedy security.

It must of been a one off for me then, flew JFK-TPA in April and flight out was 4.5 hours delayed with no explanation and no beverage vouchers, the aircraft was worn out and had yellow patches on the ceiling. On the return flight was delayed for 3.5 hours this time with them claiming there was bad weather in NYC. Another family member was in NYC at the time funnily enough and I phoned them and they said it was blue skies! Rumour has it jet blue refused to fly as there were heavy holds in JFK (30-45 min) and didn't want to waste money on fuel , no compensation or vouchers again but had to rebook onto a different VS flight as we'd miss the vs10 back but this was done at TPA by jet blue. So happily got to JFK for the vs26 the next morning after having 3 hours sleep and no hotel accommodation from jet blue due to there delay. VS then told us they had booked us all in economy when we were flying premium back and hadn't payed VS the rebooking fee (which the supervisor at JFK check in was furious about). But my experience must of been a one off but got a few miles from VS after this thankfully but didn't get the $500 room charge for that one room for 3 hours!!

There are different rules in the US relating to compensation and duty of care when there are delays - often depending on the cause - the plane goes tech then they will but weather they won't. There is no US equivalent of Eu261

But there is nothing here that indicates that you were treated like a 'wild animal'

The detail of that could never really explain, it's more of how your spoken too, a wild animal may be over the top but the lack of customer service is probably the best way of saying it.

I would choose swimming through shark-infested waters to reach my destination rather than fly Ryanair.

Ha ha, couldn't agree more y)

Use the DUB & BFS routes fairly regularly and have boycotted Ryanair for a couple of years due to their gross arrogance and disgraceful customer service.

My last two trips with EI were poor and last Saturday's flight DUB-LGW was a joke.

I will now re consider FY as an option as there is now little or no difference between them.

Ah nobody mentioned they earn avios. Small amount, but still, if its the same price for both of them...
