I wonder if that means Aer Lingus will stop being a pseudo-low-cost carrier? The Ryanair influence seemed strong on it when I flew with them last year.

Much debate over on Flyertalk about that.
There'll still be direct flights between Ireland and the USA that aren't operated by EI, so IAG & VS will still have competition and want to attract Irish people to fly via the UK. Only time will tell though I guess.

If the ex DUB route savings drop away I suppose there is always BRU - well except when Belgocontrol falls down on a power failure to close the airport today or the train drivers are on strike (again) tomorrow .... hope there are no V-Flyers heading to/from BRU today or tomorrow!
