Jet Blue change baggage policy

Oh dear I went onto the Jet Blue website just now to see if fares have finally been released for my planned flight with them in March and discovered a major policy change.

I always use this airline whenever possible for internal domestic travel from Florida up to New York in order to catch a VSflight home. For the first time ever, from now they are not offering the 'first bag free' for checked baggage.

Instead they now have a three tier price ticket. Lowest fare = no free baggage allowance (charge $20 for first bag & $35 for the second)
Next fare (Blue plus fare) = 1 free bag but fare price increases by $15! & checkin a second bag is $35.
Third option is the expensive flexible ticket which includes two free bags.

I realise this now brings Jet Blue into line with the other domestic US airlines who have all been charging for check in baggage for ages. Shame though coz it makes their overall fare more expensive and perhaps less competitive :-( Fortunately I only need to book Jet Blue one-way but after nearly three weeks of shopping in Florida and travelling UC from New York, we might have three bags each to check in :-D

Thanks for the heads-up Hev60, we're on JetBlue from EWR to RSW in September, must check our ticket details.

I think you'll be okay because it says on website that anyone who booked before June 30th 2015 will get the first bag checked free. We had to wait for their March fares to be released this week and apparently it's for fares booked from Feb 2016 that the baggage policy is applicable for.

We've done that route into RSW so many times. It is such a nice airport and offers a quick exit once car hire has been collected.

We booked 25 June so should be OK then, though I think we may be anyway because I booked Even More Space to allow for OH's long legs and duff knees (way too much sport).

We like RSW too. OH has this idea that Florida=lie back and do nothing at all, no rushing about sight-seeing, inspecting cultural areas, just absolutely nothing which he reinforces by refusing to hire a car. RSW is brilliant for that, with its taxi-booking service. You go to the dedicated kiosk, say where you're going, you're given a chitty with the fixed price (according to radius) and the taxi number of the cab you are to use, good fleet too, all-white very pristine looking 4 wheel drives. What's not to like?

Ah well, if it's taking 901 years before it applies, none of us need to worry!! :-D
