New Orleans

So, it looks like we might end up in New Orleans sometime in December or January! Not quite the winter break I had anticipated, but I'm actually really excited about it. We'll probably fly to ATL (out of MAN if there's still UC availability) and then connect with DL in F to MSY as the prices are great and we get to earn those tasty, tasty Tier Points.
I did a search on the forum and the last thread with advise on New Orleans was from 2012. I'm curious--has anyone been there at Christmas time? Or New Years? The weather is OK, it's cool but not freezing. I'm mainly curious to know if stuff will be closed around those times, or if we'll still have plenty to do. We're mainly looking to go shopping, enjoy the French Quarter, do some tours around stately homes, do a swamp tour, head to the WWII museum and enjoy some of the great food.
I've been researching hotels and really like the look of some of the suites at the Windsor Court hotel as they have character. I was disappointed as a lot of the chain hotels there still look really corporate. I did come across a couple of very interesting boutique hotels, but reviews were mixed and the Windsor seems to have great food on site (something many boutique places were lacking and can be very useful when you arrive late after a flight).
So yes, basically I'm curious to know if anyone knows it'll still be a good place to go over the holidays. If not, we're pretty flexible and so can avoid those dates, too. Thanks!
