Answer - when the gate machine goes 'bing', they scribble 1E on you boarding card only to find when you get on the Pegasus Airlines 737-800 row 1 has only A, B and C. Much jollity ensued, as I am sure you expected...

The crew member shrugged, stuck us in 2E and 2F (that's us as in plural rather than us in the sense of I have such a lard arse that I need two seats) and then when the legitimate occupants of the seats turned up marched them off to the back of the aircraft. I might have felt guilty except that I did pay 4 euro to select my original seats.

How could you pjh, no really how could you ruin this perfectly good emerging fantasy of you strapped to the wing, marooned in the loo or (my version) stuffed in the overhead locker. And you come up with this lame tale of seats in the row behind.

You can do better, honestly you can if you try.

I'll see what I can do. I have another two flights to embrace the Pegasus way of doing things...

I was on a French Club Med charter plane once when it became clear they had one passenger too many. After a lot of French shrugs rather than offload the "extra" was taken into the cockpit for the flight!

Pre 9/11 I have seen people offered the jump seat before, usually what they do/did is find a non-rev passenger first, or an employee of the airline, and have them sit there. Don't know if this practice still exists post 9/11.

I've seen people on jump seats on a severely over-booked flight from DXB. Also Aer John has flown on them on a couple of EI flights as a non-rev. I believe it's at the captain's discretion.

It's a spare seat, if one exists, in the cockpit itself.
