Seaweed has been a problem for a while now on the South and East coasts, but it's now starting to hit the West coast as well.

We stayed on the south coast near St Lawrence Gap in June last year and the amount of seaweed that washed up was crazy. You could clearly see it a few feet out in the water and some of it was washed up on the beach. Towards the end of our trip, there was a big dumping of seaweed on the beach overnight and the water immediately by the shore. The smell was very noticeable as a result. One of the hotel staff admitted it's a problem around there for approx. 70% of the year.

Conversely, when we went to the sister hotel in Holetown one day, it was seaweed free! If we do go back to Barbados, it's highly likely it will be somewhere on the west coast. Partly because the beaches and the sea looked nicer, partly because of the aforementioned seaweed problem, partly because we've stayed in the south and would stay elsewhere. That said, the hotel we stayed in (The Sands) was very nice and the staff couldn't do enough for us.
