Well what can I say..

Im a gold card spg holder and after my 3 hour stay at this hotel im ready never to set foot in another Sheraton again.

A little about the hotel itself.

It's a little of the beaten path, which works fine for me,it's undergoing some renervation which is where the problems begin. The lobby is simply but very nice. The hallways for the room's have to be the largest i've seen in some time, atrium style I guess you would call it.

The room's....well very 70's...of course as a gold card holder im supposed to get the renovated room's but hell im there for one night,i've been on the go for 18 hrs and im having dinner with friend's at 6 pm ( I checked in a 1pm) so I figured a little nap would work well.

Well I take a shower climb into bed and 5 min's later someone starts jack hammering in the room above mine.

I call the front desk and ask how long it's going to last the clerk say's he will call me back.

true to his word two min's later he call's back to say they are stopping.Of course 30 min's later they are still going at it,so I get dressed, pack my gear and head for the front desk.

I explain the situation to the clerk and he ask's me what I would like him to do.I ask to be moved and without a seconds hesitation he answers "no".Not let me see what he can do etc, just a simple no.

Now normaly I would ask for a manager then rip him apart but instead I gave the clerk two choices..give me a new room or check me out.
I did even this in a nice way,no attitude on my part, becuase hey im on a weekend away,I will not get mad over this, hence no manager.
He checked me out....

What the hell..Im an SPG goldcard holder,im not making an unreasonable request, just to be moved to a room that is not under a construction site.

There have been a number of posts on the Starwood Forum on Flyertalk trying to steer people away from that property. It is sad, as San Diego is one of our favorite weekend getaway locations and we usually stay at the Westin Horton Plaza. It is in an ideal location and within walking distance of the Gaslamp District. Later this year, Starwood will be re-opening a newly remodeled historic US Grant Hotel as part of their Luxury Collection. We are eagerly looking forward to this offering!

Thank you. I was about to book this. I thought it looked like a bit of a dump. I will avoid.

np..it could be a very nice property..with a lot of work...

Just as a follow up..forgot about this post...the GM e-mailed me a couple of weeks later and confirmed what I had said [:0]..that amazed me..then told me that as a sorry he would make sure my SPG account was credited 2500 points [:0][:0]...Of couese it has now been over a year and no points..go figure..of course since then I have stayed down in San Diego a number of times..and for some reason not there..btw..the Grant is a dump..the W over priced..what I tend to do now is stay up at one of the casino's then drive to where I need to be after morning rush hour.
