Applied for Amex Gold last week via the link in the FC rewards brochure. Card delivered today - when can I expect to see those lovely, lovely 3000 miles hit my account? Do I need to use the card first - my only reason for applying was for the miles (need 2000 more for UC to LAX this autumn!)?

Also, any idea how soon I can cancel the card and still keep the miles? I've applied for the fee-paid Virgin card and don't need them both.

Not sure if the Amex offer will work in the same way, but when I got my Virgin MasterCard, my 'Welcome' miles etc weren't credited until the end of my first month of usage.

I got the AMEX gold at the turn of the year, and it took the full 8 weeks for the miles to be credited, Not sure if you need to use the card first, but I find it extremely useful to put my old cash purchases on the card and earn miles on them
