V-Flyer

Some people here may have read this in the newspapers today, i read it in the Mail.
Eujet has gone into administration.
For those who have never heard of them, so to fill you in, they were a low cost airline, offering comfortable seats and large amounts of leg room. They flew Fokker 100's from London Manston Airport, and from Shannon.
They left 100's of people stranded yesterday, forcing them to venture home with other airlines.
They blame their administration on poor loads from London Manston.

Apparently a flight only operater is not covered by the ATOL protection you get from a package holiday. So what would happen if Virgin went bust or into administration. Unlikely I know, but say we have another 9/11 event and passenger numbers drop significantly. What protection would a stranded passenger have assuming that they had paid for their ticket by cash or debit card (which don't carry the protection from the credit card company)

Now, remember back to paper tickets, I am sure that anything other than a real cheap seat was classed as endorsable which I believe meant that it could be transferred to another airline operating the same route. Does the ticket need to be endorsed by the issuing operator and can the final carrying operator endorse this?

I was caught when Jetmagic folded. [:(] I had booked a ticket from ORK to LCY. Fortunately I had paid by credit card and so was refunded on production of my confirmation e-mail. Pity, as they were a nice airline

Duo were supposed to be a good airline too, is it me, or do all the 'low cost' high quality airlines using Rear engined small aircraft go bust? Perhaps its just a lethal combination!

easyjet are offering a £25 "rescue fare" for stranded passengers to return to the UK over the next few days.

Good move by them I think.

Of course for some people getting back to the UK is only half the problem. They then have to get down to Kent to pick up their cars!!

Pity they folded as Manston would be my local airport (when and if I was back in the Uk), but then again never used it as no connections and the EU Jet flights to SNN & AGP ( the 2 routes I would use)were crap timings.

Don't thomsonfly fly from manston now?

Lets also add that London manston Airport is now in administration too.

Well I hadn't heard of either. I guess that it didn't occur to most people to look them up when they wanted to fly somewhere, 'cos they didn't know about them.

I did know of it, but only really because of an article I read on 'how eujet has changed London Manston'... Quite ironic now really. Should be 'how eujet have ruined London Manston'

Was also wrong to call it London Manston. Its nowhere near London.

I think they must have been taking lessons from the Ryanair school of marketing!

Well it could have been at least within 30 minutes of London...

I feel sorry for poor old EUjet. They made a good stab at providing a new style LCC, but flying into Manston doomed them. Manston's catchment area was just too small to support it, and it was too far out to attract London based flyers. Shame really :/
