Any good suggestions for cheap car hire (4 days incl weekend) for Newark. Best price I have for the 4 days so far is £93 for Avis.
Thanks in advance

Don't know about Newark but found cost for pickup fom JFK 40% more expensive that pickup from Manahttan. I have seen warnings elsewhere that pick up from airports is more expensive.

Hi Paul,
DWiles makes a good point.
May I ask where you are going? I am wondering whether we might suggest getting you somewhere via other forms of transit, where you could then rent a vehicle for far less money, avoiding the stiff surcharges at NYC-area airports.

I am going straight from Newark to Short Hills. It is a trip I do regularly and there is a hertz or avis not far, but I have found that although Airport hire is loaded as far as the price is concerned EWR is still cheaper than JFK and even a cab ride to the hotel and then collect the car locally the next day ends up costing more.
I need the car really as I am going out to Woodbury.

Nice One! - £68 (compare to £93 for Avis). Appears to be from Dollar. Does anyone know where the dollar collection point is? I assume it is off airport, so now I have the dilemma. Do I pay £25 more not to have to travel off airport (as the avis counter is in the car park) and also to get the 1000 VS points.

Found out that Dollar is On Airport so even better. That settles it then. For the sake of 500/1000 VS miles I will opt for the cheaper Dollar rental

Paul,
Not wanting to tread on your strawberries, or whatever the phrase is. Be careful of the Dollar depot at EWR. We weren't impressed with them last year, we had picked up a car from BOS and dropped it at EWR. This caused all sorts of confusion, and double billing.
It was sorted out fairly quickly and without too much bother, but I seem to remember it was because the Dollar depot at EWR was a franchise depot[?] , or was it that the depot at BOS was a franchise[?]
Whichever it was, I am sure you will be fine, just double check everything and keep your paperwork in case of problems:)

One thought: take the New Jersey Transit train from Newark to Short Hills, rent your car there and drop off there, thus avoiding the unpleasantness and prices of renting at EWR.
