Hi there,

I was just a bit concerned about the pic someone uploaded the other day of the Mandalay Bay Hotel taken out of the window of a plane - it looked spitting distance from the airport. I am due to stay there next year and am now concerned about noise levels, unsightly views and the smell of aviation fuel!

I think quite a few of you have stayed there but nobody has mentioned this. Is it a problem in any way? I won't be flying into Vegas as we're doing the Kings of the Road Western Tour LAX-SFO, so it's not as if the proximity to the airport is going to be beneficial!

Any advice/info appreciated.

No cause for concern. Southern strip is closest to the airport but, having stayed at both the Mandalay and the Luxor, I can't remember any aircraft noise, let alone any fumes. Have a feeling the take off/landing flightpath runs parallel to the strip so nothing large flies in low over the hotels.

I agree, the lower part of the Strip (From around the Manadalay Bay up to Excalibur runs close (but not that close) to the airport. The runway runs at about 45% angle to the strip. Having stayed in the Luxor (next to MB) recently I can say I never noticed aircraft noise. I think the windows are sound-proofed.

ps You could check out Google Earth to see for yourself how close it all gets.

Jacq I think the pictures make the hotel look a lot closer than it is. From our room at the Four Seasons Mandalay Bay we could see the airport runway and part of the strip.

Never heard a sound and could just identify the Virgin flights coming in and going out - but that was mostly by time and colour. Either that or I need specs;)

I can confirm that you won't notice the planes, even sitting by the pool you don't hear them. We have stayed at MB probably 4-5 times and can assure you it is a lovely hotel.

There's no airplane noise at the Mandalay Bay and if you visit their delightful champagne breakfast on Sunday morning you won't care if there is!

Plus, for avid aviation fans, an excellent vantage point for plane watching !! [:p] Assuming your room looks out that way ! Quite enjoyed the view actually [y]

The point has already been dealt with comprehensively, but that won't stop me adding....

Last month, I noticed from my Luxor room, which faced the airport, that I could see the VS plane I had just disembarked from in the distance. It was small, but discernible to the unaided eye. At that point I realised I had got from that plane to that room in under an hour, and proceeded to generously self-congratulate.....[8D]

The airport's only a mile away from the Mandalay/Luxor/Excalibur anyway I think......5 minute or so taxi ride. Can't say I really heard any aircraft even out on the strip - well, helicoptors flying overhead.

As mentioned earlier about the Luxor, I stayed there earlier this week and never heard a single aircraft and that's right next door to the Mandalay. You've more chance of getting noise from generators, casinos, lifts etc coming into your room inside the hotel than from external noise.

Are you sure you want to stay at the MB? It's a vast place and a little tired now. You could move further down the strip and stay at a real nice place for the same amount of money.

The Mandalay has a monorail station which is quite useful ($20 for 7 days unlimited I believe - various options available - handy for the Hilton as there's a 50m covered walk straight to it and the Star Trek Experience), although half the time you spend longer walking through the casinos trying to find the thing due to the wonderful signs that persuade you to go everywhere but, than if you walked down the strip in the first place.

And the added bonus is that it takes very little time to transfer to and from the airport!

as far as I know,the monorail at the MB connects only to the Luxor and Excalibur.The las vegas monorail runs from the MGM down to the Hilton.

This isn't correct, as Jetwet1 has pointed out. The Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur are connected by a tram which is completely free of charge (although you may prefer to walk as they are also connected to each other by internal walkways).

The nearest monorail station is at the MGM, so the journey from Mandalay Bay is the tram to Excalibur then walk out, round New York New York and into the MGM and find the monorail station. That takes a bit of time, as some of us have found out in the last week .

Twenty dollars buys you 10 trips with a one year expiry on the ticket.

I agree - that champagne brunch is to die for, and a bargain at $22. I stayed at the Luxor in a room that faced the airport and can honestly say that I never noticed a plane once[y].

Actually you get more noise disturbance from noisy people stomping past your room and slamming doors down your corridor[:(!]
