Our holiday destination is the Italian Lakes - any advise where to stay? Bellagio looks great. This will be a 2 week holiday - any advise as to staying in one place as a base to travel from or moving around - we do want some relaxation.
I wanted to spend around 200Euro per night - my Upper Class tickets from Sydney have taken much of my holiday budget.
Thanks

Paul,
Bellagio is nice, but it's somewhat remote of you want to get around. I user TripAdvisor to check out hotels on the lakes for my trip last month - worked out really well. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Gardone on lake Garda - nice old fashioned hotel with great bar staff, and at the Hotel Villa Flori on Como - really good restaurant staff. Not sure if they will meet your budget, but worth a try, as I stayed at high season, and probably paid too much. Both hotels are right on the water, with most rooms having a balcony overlooking. It's a beautiful area, we did the two centre thing as we'd never been before and wanted a tour round to see what was what.
Definitely going back!

Hi Paul,
Have a look
here on the Fodors site for a discussion on various hotels available in the Lake Como area; these comments are from actual travelers.
Sounds like a wonderful trip, by the way!
Regards,
Chuck-
