Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone has heard of or has got the Coutts World Card, Credit Card? I got a call today offering me it and I am not sure if it is any good or even worth it! It was a surprise as I am not a member of their bank!

Also, I hope everyone going to LAS an SFO in a few weeks has a great time, so jealous I cannot come! stupid masters thesis!

Sounds like Coutts is diluting the brand then, I know AmEx never phone up offering Centurion out, and even worse going out to unknown customers. Even AmEx has the decency to 'target' potential Platinum applicants.

If you do a search, you will find mention of it in one of the Premier Credit Card threads, it was likened to an AmEx Platinum to be honest in benefits terms, its no Centurion Card.

i was very surprised when they called up especially as i bank at C. Hoare their arch rival! hehe! have no clue how they got my details!

Just thought it might be worth asking as I use my amex a lot but even in London so many places do not take it! Therfore, thought about also getting a credit card. any advice on good ones?

The brand is NatWest owned. It is moving away from its traditionaly exclusive status and aiming for the "snob sans-money" market segment. Sad, but the reality is that Coutts is a cash cow in the process of being milked.

This is strange indeed. The Coutts World Card (and its predecessor, the World Signia Card) were always available to qualifying NatWest customers (i.e. those earning more than around £250,000 a year and/or with assets exceeding £5 million), but cold calling Hoares' customers is a new one on me. Makes one wonder how they got hold of the customer details.

The comparison with Amex Platinum is very misleading - you can get an Amex Platinum (and subsequently a Centurion) with an income of around £30,000. If you tried to open a Coutts account with that sort of income, you would immediately be shown the door.

As for Coutts targeting people "sans money" - I don't think so. C Hoare & Co is by far the most exclusive bank in Britain, although its rather esoteric product offering and extreme aversion to risk mean it would not suit many high net worth executives.

Hi Peter,

Very true, the comparison I made was on a benefits parallel. I do know of people that earn that kind of money that do have Coutts accoutns but then their family are long standing customers of the bank.

Interesting timing - article in today's Mail suggesting a million's not enough anymore: (yup, sorry...)

Chief Executive Sarah Deaves, of Coutts UK, says: 'While 25 years ago £1million would have been more than enough to comfortably live the millionaire's lifestyle a few times over, today it will afford only a small portion of the trappings.
'Our research shows it is time to coin a new expression "thrillionaire", as people now need £3million to be able to live that luxury lifestyle.'

I'd still consider taking the "poor millionaire" lump sum option...

I saw this, and even more bizarre was Michael Winners column int he Dialy Mail today rubbishing the claim that the figure is way too low, and how he spends £700k on his 4 week Xmas holiday.
