Pit Stop in Singapore!

Hi all,

Looks like one of the consequences of the short-notice nature of my work trip to Aus, is that the return flight I've got booked will necessitate a one-night stopover in Singapore. Apart from catching up with sleep in a hotel bed, do people have any suggestions for "must see/do" activities in the area, bearing in mind I'm going to have very little time!

Cheers!

Darryl

Oooh. Singapore. My favourite country. So much to do and so little time!

If you have time, spend the day on Sentosa - good aquarium, Fort Siloso museum is excellent but takes a few hours to do properly, musical fountain is worth seeing at dusk.

If you don't have time, have a drink in the Long Bar at the Raffles (just to say you've done it) and if you have time eat satay in the courtyard restaurant (good value abd a lovely place to eat).

Otherwise, Singapore is a great place for walking. Get downtown and just walk! Down by the river on Clarke Quay and Boat Quay is nice, as is the Padang.

You'll wish you had more than one night, I promise you!

On the assumption you have really limited time, and that you will feel in need of exercise after your flight from down under, this would defo get my vote. Really nice feel to the quays and a great place for a bit of people watching.

As the PP said, Sentosa is really great in a sort of tinsle town, kitch sort of way. But unless you have a proper long day (incl some of the evening for the laser and musical fountain show) leave it for another time.

If its your sort of thing, I would recomend the Changi (sp). A real eye opener on man's inhumanity to man, but done with tact and interest - a bit of a treck out from singapore town though.

Personally I would give raffles a miss. Its one of those places that, IMHO, is great in your imagination but disappoints in reality.

I good place for a stop over, and remeber its one of the safest places on earth, so don't be fearful of exploring.

Stop at The Oriental and have the breakfast buffet - it makes Vegas buffets look like a sideshow. [8D]

Thanks,
