What are the best ways to do this route?

Hmmm, plenty I guess; First that springs to mind is Continental via Newark. Houston is one of their hubs so the service should be frequent and decent. They are using decent aircraft soon - 767-400's again. Delta via Atlanta although its a long flight to Atlanta so the total time would be high. American via Chicago. BA to JFK then AA to Housto,n I guess. BMI via Chicago and connect with United.

I dare you to try PIA direct!!

Best would be CO I reckons.

You could always get a cheap flight to gatwick and then go nonstop to houston from there. At least you would get a 777 on the LGW-Houston part.

Just a word of warning about Newark or JFK.

Way back in 1995 I did Gatwick Orlando via Newark in February to keep the costs down !

In those days it was alot cheaper going in direct to Florida

On the day I ended up doing Gatwick Houston Orlando with Continental as most of the Eastern Airports where shut due to heavy snow.

The return was the same via Houston due to bad weather again !

Might want to bear that in mind if you're travelling Jan/Feb

Hope that helps.

I'm doing this the other way tomorrow (IAH-MAN) - I flew to the States on American Airlines (via Chicago).

One thing to bear in mind (certainly for Continental and American) is that their luggage allowance for international travel is 23kg per piece (max 2 pieces) whereas BA and Virgin still allow 32kg per piece.

I would suggest LGW-IAH as the best way

We have done LHR-DFW-HOU before, and once LHR-DFW then drove to Houston, its about four hours.
