Which card is based for loyalty points in UK?

Hey folks,
I'm new here and so if this has been dicussed before please forgive me!

I am looking for advise on which card is best for collecting points to use on flights etc in the uk. I currently have a Hilton plat mastercard which I'm using to collect points, but the virgin card looks like a better offer?

Any help would be great! [y]

Hi BelfastFlyer, a very warm welcome to V-Flyer.

If you have a skim through this section of V-Flyer you will see lots of talk about the Virgin Mastercard and also for Amex.

My own choice is the fee paying Virgin Mastercard .

Have look round, and if you have any specific questions, we will try and help.

Nick

Many thanks! I have a amex plat CC which gives me cashback, but I figure a points card is a better deal.

Ditto Nick on the Virgin fee-based Mastercard

Most of us on here either have that, or an AmEx, (or both) due to the points earning capabilities, each have their own unique benefits and suitability depends on your income, regularity of travel, what you want out of the card, and so on.

Personally, for the £80 annual fee and 2 miles per £1 spent, you cant go wrong with the Mastercard IMHO.

Ahem! Tesco, converting the points into airmiles is worth a mention. We have had all sorts of short Euro breaks just for buying loo roll and cheap petrol:D

No, you;re quite right. Tesco points can be converted into BA miles, or into that generic 'AirMiles' program.

Yep - that's what I meant by airmiles - you can spend them with "Airmiles travel company" to get cheap/free flights and accomodation. Sure, in this case a 2 week holiday in Morocco would amount to a hill of beans, in that a hill of the things is what you would have to buy to get 2 weeks away. But it is relatively easy, even for a DINKY family like us, to get a few weekends away. Last trip on airmiles was 4 days in Vienna for about £100 for the two of us. A very pleasant weekend it was too.

Having said that it is worth considering:

a) How much you are likely to spend in a year and
b) How you are likely to use the miles

Generally if are likely to use the miles for UC/PE travel or you spend over 10-12k a year then it makes a lot of sense to go for the fee card.

Many thanks everyone. I think I'll be going for the virgin card as my hilton mc is just terrible when it comes to value of the points you collect.

Im fairly new to the whole virgin experience but I am planning on becoming a regular!
