VS002 EWR-LHR 11 Dec 05 (Econ)

Left Hard Rock cafe at Times Square at 1830 (did OLCI the night before in Boston after Bon Jovi concert!). Reached EWR at 1930. Dropped bags immediately. Stood at the gate was VROC (the same a/c we had travelled out on). Seats 64H/K ,always our favourite seats.

Question for anyone - Why does VROC and some of the LGW/MAN 747's have windows missing around row 60/62? I've seen a Malaysian 747 like this also.

Bit of a rushed service due to the 'short' 5h53 flight, but never the less very pleasant and good food.

V:port - Its just the best isn't it? However, on VROC the sky map did not work in either direction and for the last 2 hours of the return flight, neither did any of the TV progs or films. The stewardess said that all the seats at the rear had the same problem.

So beware over the next few days that if you see VROC stood at your gate you might not get the IFE you expect.

Other than that, excellent.

PS - Did an internal in U.S. with JetBlue..... excellent, novel, I highly recommend them!

Thanks for the TR!

As I understand the blocked windows are used for ventillation piping to go from the bottom to the top of the aircraft.

B747's come in various guises, and the operator can select which windows are blocked (there will always be some).

With VS, as they operate 747-443's (Alitalia config), 747-4Q8's (ILFC leasing companies config) and 747-41R's (VS config) the layout of blanked out windows can vary.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Richard28 for that info. I've made a note of them seats, as 'no window' is not an option for me! So the a/c with this config are vroc, vros, vroy, & vrom. Is that right?

Nick, Bon Jovi were as entertaining as ever... a fantastic night out. I will certainly be seeing them when they reach our shores in June and might even plan another VS trip to see them in the U.S. again. Las Vegas or San Fran both possibilities.

PS - has anyone else had v:port problems?

Vfab,
Great report. And was quite intrigued by your question about the blocked windows. I had noticed this for years, both on VS and other carriers, but never really gave it alot of thought except for wondering where exactly in the airplane that this occurs.

Yes, JetBlue is doing pretty well here though it's been a little shaken by two recent aircraft incidents, one described here. Passengers on the plane watched the whole thing unfold on their seatback televisions.

Thanks, Richard28, for solving the windows question.

Regards,
Chuck-
