We decided upon check in to upgrade from our Economy ticket to PE, the check-in guy told us it would be 289pp, one way, bargain we thought.

Once boarded we noticed we had the bulkhead seats, not sure we like these due to the heavy traffic to and from the galley?. Anyhow, we took a look at the seats and where very impressed indeed, just first impressions they where much nicer than the old style PE. The seat is wider, with more recline and very good adjustable lumbar support too. I also did like the Dark purple colour. The V port system was very good too, as was the large screens.

The meal was very nice too, served on decent crockery, we had a lovely breakfast.

We enjoyed a lovely 7 hour flight, this was by far the quietest aircraft we have ever been on. Very impressed. The loo's were also very nice illuminated blue and very clean and fresh.

We came into JFK over Manhattan, i was so excited being my first trip to NY, WOW, what a view.

We landed on time and got through baggage and customs very quickly, and off to The Westin Hotel.

On our return journey, the service and cabin crew where great, the meal very nice indeed. We had the back 2 seats in the PE cabin, we paid around 249pp for these, the cabin was only around 1/4 full.

Our only gripe was that after take off, a woman from economy came into our cabin, asked if anyone was sat in the centre seats and plonked herself down, reclined her seat and fell asleep. I asked a member of the cabin crew who she was and why had she only just come in after take off, when Q, she had just decided to take a seat in PE as she was tired, and a member of the crew said she could. She was promptly sent back to where she came from. Cheek or what.

Anyhow it didnt stop there, many of the economy pax where using the PE loo's, i could not get any rest as the loo door was always opening and shutting, i asked cabin crew again, this particular member of staff was oriental, our flight had mostly an oriental base of crew. She was very vague and said, oh yes they are allowed to use the loo's, i was not convinced so asked another london based member, she swftly said, NO they are not allowed, and in return gave me a nice bottle of champagne. Also i think many of the Economy pax did this quite a lot, on guy even came into PE and took a few bottles of water and put his stuff in the PE lockers.

Apart from this, it was a great flight.

EC pax arent allowed to use PE loos as you rightly said but it does happen alot albeit the crew no matter what should know this.At least you got a bottle of bubbly!

Did you enjoy your experience in PE?

Did you like New York? Its one of my fav cities[y]

Hi Motherger,

we had a fantastic 6 day break, we stayed at The Westin, times square, we loved the view, we had a great corner room, fab.

We did enjoy the experience, it was great, we loved the new aircraft, the A340 we came home on was only born in Nov 06, very new indeed.

Thanks, glad you liked the report.

Best meal we had was Gordan Ramseys, new place at The London, fantastic but a little costly.

Hi Catherine

Great piccies!

Decker and I went GR's too, and really enjoyed it. It's been slated by the food critics, but we had no complaints.

I always find it amusing that people think they can pay for one seat, but go and sit somewhere better. On a recent Club flight with BA, one of the cabin crew told me that Y passengers were moving themselves into World Traveller Plus, and being most put out when told if they wanted to sit in the cabin they needed to pay for it![:)]

Catherine

Thanks for an excellent first TR. Very enjoyable - conveying nicely your pleasure at the new PE experience! Sorry to hear about the frustrations but as you said that's quite a deal upgrade wise!

We did Gordon Ramsay's back in early December. Really was excellent. And the sommelier was very helpful. Which of the two spreads for your bread did you prefer?

Hi Catherine

Really love those pics [y]

Glad you enjoyed your PE experience and New York City too. I hope you got lots of shopping done [:D]

I've given up complaining about Y pax using the PE loos. On my last PE flight a few weeks ago I got to the toilet at the same time as a Y pax, who came from behind the curtain. I gave this person a look that said 'I don't think so!' They did look a bit sheepish I have to say.

Welcome to V-flyer [:D]

Glad you liked the report.

Next trip is MCO in September, we love Florida our favourite place, as we are going for 3 weeks, we are looking at spending 3 days in NY mid way through our trip as a surprise for my mum and dad and the kidlets. Jet Blue seem to be the best value as of now.

I have to say though, i preferred BMI, The Business seats to the look of the UC, however i have never flown in UC, maybe next time using my miles.

Decker, spreads for bread, you know i dont remember having a choice. We thought the food was great, such a shame its been slated. I did think the drinks where very expensive at around $80 for 4 drinks at the bar beforehand.

Catherine

Thank you for your TR & pics[y][y][y]

it always welcome to have fresh insight into what people think of travelling with VS and your decision to pay for the upgrade seems to have met your expectations.

Your pictures will of course make others envious when they discover the aircraft they are travelling on has yet to be upgraded (for example on the Gatwick routes)[}:)]

thanks once again

Great TR and the pics are fantastic, I'm flying to NY next month in PE and I'd quite like to give the new seats a whirl, although I wouldn't say no to an upgrade to UC of course... [:D]

A very warm welcome to V-Flyer Catherine and well done on getting the pics into the post - I think it took me 6 months to work that one out!!

PE has always been my favoutite and it's good to see that VS has taken in on another step - the seats look great and as you commented the seat back screens are a vast imrovement.

Now if we could just get them onto the b&s routes before June???

Hello Catherine, and welcome to V-Flyer [y]

Great trip report, and as ever, made ever better by really good pics. Its always nice to see pics of new seats without VS's marketing gloss. Glad to see they look just as nice as in the blurb.

Great photo of Manhattan too, I've never gone over the Island when flying into JFK so a great bonus!

On our last flight in Upper we had SO many people from further back thinking they could just plonk themselves down at the bar.

Cheers!

Dean
