If this was a school report this flight was be going down as average or below.

Granted, it was functional in getting me from London Heathrow (LHR) to Newark Liberty International (EWR) despite the best efforts of BAA, and NATS, but was severely lacking in crucial areas which left me wondering if it was actually worth paying extra for PE against EC !

Despite living under an hour from Heathrow, and a 4PM flight, Id opted to stay at the Holiday Inn the night before. I sometimes suggle to justify this until I awoke to find that the M40 had been shut due to a serious accident.

Id already done OLCI the previous evening, so went straight to the Fast Drop which took about 10 minutes with about 10 people in front. Security was another 10 minutes, and again I managed to side step the Shoe Carnival.

That left me about 20 minutes to grab some lunch before boarding began at 2.45PM at which I took may place in 74A on the upper deck of the Boeing 747 400. Champaign was served about 15 minutes later in a very small glass !

4PM arrived, and went to be followed by the usual announcement; That were awaiting the paperwork ! Next it was; BAA have decided to change the Landing & Take Off runways from East to West !

All in all it was gone 4.30PM before we were on our way. Fortunately that time was made up in the air, and landing was slightly ahead of schedule despite being directed into a holding pattern to the west of Manhattan.

Our routing took up the centre of the UK, out over the Severn Estuary, making land again over Canada before dropping down to the West of Manhattan.

As for the food . I decided to sample the beef which was chewy to say the least. The bread came midway through the meal, and the coffee well that was luke warm !

At no time during the flight was there a orange juice/water run through the cabin, in fact not even any left at the back of the cabin for people. Not even a Fruit Bowl or newspapers either !!

During the latter stages of the flight raucous laughter emanated from the Gallery ! When the FSM made the Thanks for all your hard work PA, I wondered if shed actually bothered to check upstairs during the flight ?

Compared to JFK Immigration & Customs at EWR were a breeze, and I was on the Air Train within 20 minutes of getting off the flight.

Interestingly I sat next to an American businessman whod flown into the UK on MAXjet, and who had many good stories to relate about this young up start ! ! Maybe its time to explore that option ?

It sounds similar to a trip we made with colleagues in PE in March (LGW-UVF) when the bread actually arrived when most of us had finished dessert!

ÒThat we're awaiting the paperwork !Ó

Is this VS code for 'we're running behind schedule but don't want our customers to know it's our own fault'. No other carrier seems to suffer from this like VS.

Let us know what you think of Maxjet if you fly them!

Thanks
