Arrived at approximately 12noon (nice and early) at the Upper Class checkin where there was no one waiting. Asked if we were on the 2pm flight and said no the 4pm and wanted to make the most of the clubhouse. Had a chat about our return on the ship and had to show the paperwork to prove we were returning[}:)].
Hopped in the lift to fastrack which was very quick and avoided the shoe carnival, only just though by showing the Upper Class stamp. Picked up a couple of magazines and wandered to the Clubhouse. Advised them it was our first time there and shown around personally by a very nice gentleman. Had a look around before selecting our seating area and decided on the area behind the bar with the hanging wicker seats. A waitress came up to us quickly where I chose a glass of champagne and OH had an espresso martini. Ordered chicken curry and clubhouse burger - the food arrived before the drinks amazingly.
Settled down and read for a while and had a further drink before going in for a manicure and a shave - had a great chat to the manicurist who said like me she buys all her jewellery from Dubai as it is so cheap over there compared to the UK.
Found another seat in the same area and had another tipple or two whilst sharing a dessert. The Clubhouse is great and certainly beats any Emirates lounge I have been into, although the one in Singapore is nice, the Dubai one is chaos and not relaxing at all.
After leaving our sanctuary for the last 3 hours, it was off for a quick hike to the gate. There didn't seem to be much of a queue so thnk a lot of people had already boarded.
Settled down into 3/4K which were nice seats as you faced a wall, so did not have to look at anyone. The aisles were narrow and it was difficult to load the overhead locker when someone wanted to pass. Settled into the seat and had a quick look at the menu when a FA came around and took them off us as they were incorrect - the revised choices were announced over the tannoy.
Upper class was very busy with only about 5 or so seats spare and the male FSM came round very quickly with drinks followed by the basket of goodies. He said we could take an extra one or two if needed - loved the face loltion, it was really nice and OH loved the shave cream.
Drinks and nuts/crisps were quickly delivered following take off followed by the meal. After all my imbibing in the Clubhouse, I then felt it was time for a sleep. The FA assisted me with the seat changeover and I quickly dozed for a couple of hours. OH said there were no problems with vport whilst I was asleep and ice cream was served during the flight. Oh well, missed out again, but I think I had my fill in the Clubhouse anyway.
The announcement came that landing would be within 30 minutes and to start getting ready, at which time I felt the flight was so short and I hadn't even taken advantage of the bar - it was a must do on this trip as PE is my usual mode of travel. Oh well, another time [:p].
The doors at the front of the plane were opened and a swift walk to an empty immigration hall was a relief. We were the first in the queue (very fast walkers) and had to wait for the staff to man the desks - through very quickly and luggage off swiftly too - 3 cases all in tact thank goodness.
The arranged driver was waiting for us and very soon we were on our way to our NY hotel for a couple of nights.
Overall, a good flight - it's just a pity I dropped off for a fair bit of it and didn't get the full UC experience due to my lack of stamina.
