This was a surprise birthday trip for my wife who will be 40 on Monday.
We arrived at LHR at T3 via Parking Express as they were doing a cracking 4 a day parking deal. There was no one else to be picked up, so we had a private transfer to the terminal.
There is a UC trial going on, so we checked in upstairs at the drive through check in. My wife sat down at the sofas as i still wanted the trip to be a surprise. I asked how busy the flight was in PE, and was told there were 15 unsold/empty seats, I also checked that there was a note on the booking that I asked the Premier team to put on, after some searching it was found.
We breezed through security, skipped the shoe check, did a bit of shopping and then headed to the Club House. The concierge gave it away that the Boston flight would be called at 14:20.
We settled in to the sofa's by the window behind the bar, and had very attentive service from the team. We were told the menu was changing from Thursday 26th, so if you had any favourites now was the time to get them.
I went for the Ham hock, and my wife selected the Chicken Curry, both were very good.
I had an appointment for a massage which was very vigorous !
I had a suspicion that there were problems with the flight, as it had now got to 14:20 and there was no gate assigned. I left it until the flight time to check what was going on, and found that it had been put back a few hours due to a problem.
The flight was called at 16:40 for a 17:15 departure, and I did check that the gate area was clearing, and was told it was, but in reality it was n't. We queued for some time, and during that wait, an UC passenger was ushered on, with an Unnacompanied Minor as well.
The Captain advised us there had been a plane switch, as the scheduled plane had developed a technical problem with the engines, and required some data analysis.
They switched to a 600 Series plane, which I always prefer as the VPort and PE toilets are a much better experience.
We actually put back at 6pm, which was a 3 Hr and 20 minute delay, which would put us into Boston around 9.30pm
The in flight food was pretty good, we both opted for the Beef Goulash, and the service through out the flight was pretty efficient and friendly.
We landed at 9:25, there was a long taxi to the jet bridge, and a reasonable walk to Immigration. Although there were many people in front of us, they were mainly US citizens and residents, so we were 4th in line at the Visitor queue. We were through quickly and down to Belt 1, where our bags were waiting for us.
We had an Avis car waiting for us, or should have done, if their Computers had not been down all day. Was offerred a new PT Cruiser, to which I asked for a differnet vehicle as I do not like the driving experience.
Unfortunately for Avis at Logan, they have a habit of losing car keys, so it took ages to manually process the paperwork and find a set of keys.
We arrived at our Hotel en route to Warner, NH at midnight, to be met with a very smelly smoky non-smoking room, we were moved to a 'clean' room and had a good nights rest.
The flight delay was a nusience, but was made bearable by the Club House, and the late arrival into Boston did mean traffic was light and we had minimal jet lag.
Summary
Good food in the lounge and in the air.
Good & friendly service
Very prompt bag delivery
