I had to go out to a party upon arriving back home so getting rest would be the order of the night. Previous Y flights from MCO had left me feeling extremely knackered so what would happen here........
I paid a visit to walgreens prior to heading to the airport and got some 'melatonin' homeopathic pills which you could take up to 3 hours before driving and not feel drowsy. As I was driving at the other end I thought this would be safest.
Upon arriving early at the airport check-in had not even opened yet. There was a small queue of pax at the Y queue and only me in the J queue. When check-in opened for J the security chap stopped checking the Y pax details and came over to let me into the queue. Good stuff.
Quickly checked in and given directions to the CH. Upon arrival at the CH I had a couple of beers with the thai curry and a rather nice pudding. Watched a few planes come and go and then went for a walk around the museum before heading over to the gate. Security was fast.
Boarding was done via two doors so I was on the plane quickly. Was offered a drink but only had OJ as this would be a champagne free flight for me in stark contrast to the outbound flight which was anything but champagne free (HIC). Had a quick nosey in the flight deck before take off and had a chat with the captain and his team. Nice guys. Flight time would be 10 hours and 1 minute. Was offered a sleep suit which I took.
Just before take-off an annoucement was made apologising for the heat in the cabin which would be resolved when the engines were on. Maybe the can turn off the AC in Y and keep it on in J as we all looked somewhat bemused on the UD as the vents were blowing lovely cold air full blast.
Had some food and another two beers whilst watching star trek. After this, got the bed made up and took some pills and went to sleep. Woke up twice throughout the flight and took another pill each time. Reckon I had about 6-7 hours sleep. Felt great when I woke up and had a bacon roll and some coffee. Then had another bacon roll and more coffee. Got changed out of my PJ's and got ready for landing. It was a bit hot during the sleeping part of the flight. Not much cold air coming out of the vents. Maybe they turn the air flow down on the night flight.
Was very quickly off and decided to go landside to get my bmi bp as virgin seem incapable of giving you a connecting bp on bmi for some reason. bmi never have any problem giving me a vs bp. IRIS worked well here.
Over all, very good flight. I made it to my party and didn't feel particularly tired. The advantage of the party was I was now back to UK time the next day.
It didn't have the party feel of the outbound being a night flight but the cabin crew did a fine job. The extra bacon roll was freely offered.
So, overall my first VS J experience was fantastic and I'd love to do it again. Not sure I can afford the prices but have lots of bmi airmiles so can burn them again if required.
Difficult to find any fault with this offering from VS. The plane on the way back seemed a bit more worn that the outbound but everything still worked fine. The fact I slept was a major plus point.
It was nice to feel important.
Already planning next years trip to MCO which although won't live up to the LHR fleet J product will be done in PE as opposed to Y. If there is a G fare available then maybe I can stretch to paid UC for the rest of the family.
Thanks VS for a great experience.
