Another very interesting TR and I am very pleased the birthday was such a success . There is a solution to your winter gloom - start booking the next UC trip!

Another great report Paul, thank you

Kandinsky's work, particularly the evolution of his style, proved interesting. It was another exhibit that drove both MrsPJH and I into fits of giggles and a Clarkson moment. A large, plastic beaded, curtain. I quote 'distanced himself from a stereotypically Hispanic aesthetic.. invoke thoughts of his Cuban roots..images of neighborhood bodegas.. festive times.. both humble and sublime.' Stop! Its a beaded curtain of the type my mum and dad used to have in their caravan.

I am sure my mum still has one of those in her attic, I shall purloin it and sell it as a work of the great(?) master.

Currently I'm feeling a little down as something that I had so been looking forward to has now been and gone and we are sliding into the gloom of winter.

Don't worry, you can cheer up now it is Christmas!

Here's a picture of the item in all its glory.

Ours had more of the Morecambe aesthetic.

Sadly my mum's doesn't look like that...damn...I'd already spent the money too. Perhaps there is a market for an earlier edition in multi coloured plastic?[?]

Great TR thanks Paul. Glad you both enjoyed your first UC flights, but I think Mrs PJH has got it spot on, NYC is a bit short. I think you will enjoy UC on a longer flight even mire, nothing better than spending a few hours at the bar whilst still enjoying a good film or two and a nap.

Thanks
Neil

Ah, yes, as good as any produced by our resident TRmeister. [y] A pair of excellently crafted TRs. Many thanks.

quote: Again I took great pleasure in heading for the Priority Lane (I have used it when using PE but it felt somehow better with a purple pass) and we were on the jetway. But what do we find ? This is attached to the very forward door, thus denying us the second 'turn left' experience.
I mentioned this in my recent TR on the VS2 and Tinkerbelle posted that in EWR boarding is always through the first door as the jetways cannot reach the second door on the A346.

[:I] Indeed you did...it possibly slipped my mind as that is now a vessel only capable of holding a finite number of items and I didn't want the length of a jetway to occupy a slot normally reserved for my children's names, my PIN or the fact that the correct response to 'A top up, sir?' is 'yes please'.

Marvellous TR Paul.

Looks like being put to bed by a crew member is becoming the latest de rigueur V-Flyer activity. Perhaps we should design a T-Shirt to advertise the fact: 'I've Been Tucked In By A Virgin'. Or suchlike.

I wonder if that could be challenged under the Trade Descriptions Act? [:w][:I]

To reiterate what others have said, thank you for such thoroughly entertaining TR[y]

I only hope that my next TR can reach the standard

If VS were to promote the new 'Tuck in' service, then they could get away with charging what they like[}:)]

Thanks

Thanks for such an informative trip report! We're going to NY next month so it's been great reading.

Could I please ask you for some advice? We're also returning on the VS2 and have a car booked to pick us up from our hotel near Times Square at 6.45pm as I'm fully expecting traffic problems, but as you say that your journey was 40 minutes I wonder if that's too early now.

Would you say that this is a sensible time? We're PE so won't need to be there early enough to experience the Clubhouse!

Many thanks for your help and the great TR!

Karen

Hi Karen

We've only done it the once so it's a bit difficult to draw on our experience as being in any way the norm. Our driver told us that we'd been lucky that evening and sometimes it took him 40 minutes to get across town to the tunnel.

Have a great time in New York. I can recommend a couple of great traditional diners for breakfast / lunch...

Hi Paul,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess maybe the best thing would be to ask the driver taking us from the airport to the hotel if they think the time is OK and can change it then if necessary.

It will be my third trip to New York but it's my mum's first - it's a girly trip to celebrate a 'special' birthday - but recommendations would still be much appreciated. I'm trying to create an itinerary that involves (a) all the major sights, (b) getting slightly off the tourist trail and (c) a bit of time for shopping! In 4 days.... [:D]

So yes, anything to save a bit of time would be great, thanks!

Karen

Hi Karen

A few places that most tourists miss include

New York Historical Society - has some excellent permanant and temporary exhibitions
www.nyhistory.org

Even if you're not into opera the backstage tour of the Met is a fascinating 1 1/2 - 2 hrs
http://www.metoperafamily.org/education ... stage.aspx

Rockefeller Centre walking Tour - about an hour long
http://www.rockefellercenter.com/index. ... 2/1/-1/19/

JP Morgan Library & Museum - includes rare manuscripts and Guttenberg bibles
http://www.themorgan.org/home.asp

And as your going before Christmas there are craft stalls etc at Union Square and Grand Central for unusual gifts (or treats for yourself!)

Hope you and your mum had a fab trip!

Chris

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this [oo]!

I've added this all to our itinerary so thanks again!

I will write a trip report when we get back as a way of thank you!
