Back to SF to spend the xmas holidays with friends out there. Treated myself to UC as it was a special holiday and the fare was cheaper than Premium [?], and having flown UC using miles in the summer I seem to have developed a taste for it [:w]

Check in was smooth as you like, nobody in the queue, and straight through the private security and into the CH. Standard English b'fast ordered, with a couple of champagnes, then tried the Virgin Redhead, which is bloody marvellous [y], so 2 more of those then off to the plane.

Tucked into my seat with more bubbles and a glance at themenu, surprised to see it changed since Sept, and no chocolate ganache [:(!]

All crew reasonablly pleasant, though only one girl and the rest guys, which makes a mockery of the sexy advert you see on tv.

Food was ok, delicious chicken salad (had a second one later in the flight), ok but mild chicken curry, and a lemon cheesecake. Stuck to champagne throughout then fired up The Hangover and laughed my buns off.

Staggered to the bar after the movie and chatted nonsense with various folk while helping reduce the flight load by draining all the JD and a fair whack of Bombay, pretty sure there were sarnies etc but it all gets a bit hazy.

Had a glorious approach over SF, took some great photos and cruised in no problem. Straight through immigration and bags arrived in no time, out into arrivals in less than 10 minutes... marvellous.

As to the value for money, the CH and ease of check in, and the ability to sit up at the bar and put your feet up throughout the flight make it worthwhile if you can get a sale fare, but overall the seats are too awkward and the food too average, as well as the somewhat indifferent service (not bad just bland), to make it worth paying full price, I'd rather sit in prem (in the right seat of course [;)])

Opinions may vary, of course...

For me too going UC is only over going to be a sale / miles driven event, but from my limited experience I'd raise the value of the service in UC, though I've also had some excellent service in PE...or perhaps I'm just easily impressed...[:I]

Thanks for the TR - looking forward to the return!

Thanks for taking the time to post your TR, a good read.

You say that now Paul, just wait until you are pricing your next trip up, the cursor seems to always change the travel class to UC somehow!!

Great TR and you do seem to enjoyed it but I agree that it is difficult to justify unless you get a sale fare. No mention of a hair cut or Cowshed treatment, did you ask or did the Virgin Redheads keep you fully occupied?!

Interesting TR particularly the Upper/PE comparison re value for money. I am hoping to take my first trip in Upper in June so am always interested in people's views of the service, experiences etc.
