After 8 years of economy, the odd PE and various shopping spending it was time for our First Upper Class trip. Honeymoon in Miami and the Keys. Originally We were scheduled for Tokyo but had to put this on hold now. Though i did get a few odd looks for honeymooning in Tokyo!

I knew going UC would result at the end of the day a terrible decision. After doing PE to Hong Kong I knew even then returning to Economy would be oh so hard.

Having requested 12A and K online we made a bold decision, on advice from a lovely check in lady to change to 4A/5A in the bubble. Some may be thinking thats crazy but overall it was a very good choice. Walking to the clubhouse it played on my mind what had i done though.

As for the Clubhouse, now i see what the fuss is all about. What a great place to spend a few hours or more. Both of us had breakfast, treatments and At least 4 cocktails. All before 11am. Eeeeek.

Managed to drag ourselves out of the Clubhouse and made our way to the gate. Showed straight up stairs to the bubble and settled in to my seat drink in hand, then it clicked. Omg I'm in UC how do I do anything else! Take off in recline with feet up? This is unheard off!

Couldn't fault the crew, food and cabin. I Changed into a sleep suit for most of the journey even though its a day flight. It felt so much more comfortable. Decided to take a walk, no problem getting through the economy cabin. Without starting another debate on feeling "superior" to Economy passengers i must admitt it felt good to shut the curtain. But hey i be in those red seats again soon so pleae dont be angry! Its just one of those things.

One of the announcements from the flight Deck was from a ladies voice. Funny how people reading all look up like OMG, whats that!

Overall the UC bubble was fine and would use again. Yes we had to wait for the economy part to leave but wasn't an issue (maybe it would be for a celeb). In fact it was perfect. The main Immigration was in bad way so we were all lined up against a wall and told to wait and wait and wait. Eventually some door opened and by luck we were at the front. After snaking to about 10th in line we found just 4 officers. As far as the eye could see 300 passengers were snaking back towards the gate. We got through in 20 minutes even though 10th in line. Felt sorry for the people at the back.

Taxi Q was interesting but got one easy enough and direct to the EPIC (Kimpton hotel). This hotel was bliss. Yes it was downtown but is No 1 on trip advisor for a reason. Great pool and although small the club lounge was great.

Great TR - I completely agree with you, once you've been in UC it is very hard to go back and nothing compares.

MIA immigration sounds like it was up to it's normal tricks. It really is the worst airport. For those in Y right at the back, it's such a long wait.

I will fly into MIA again in the future, but will try and look at alternatives first.

Hope you had a fantastic honeymoon in the keys!

The reactions of some passengers are even better when they find out that both pilots are female! :D :D

I was on a flight from SFO on a 747 a couple of years ago and was at the bar (where else would I be you ask :o) ) There was a tiny woman standing beside me at one stage - she barely made 5 foot and wasn't in the first flush of youth. With a shock I realised she had captain's stripes on her shirt :0 I spent the rest of the flight wondering if her feet could reach the pedals! :w

Am I not the only one soothed by the sound of a female FD?

MIA immigration at its worst again.

Sounds like the flight was ace though y) .

Great T/R & many congrats! y)

I must try UC someday - although I don't know if I could justify the cost. Mind you, there is a walk-up bar after all :D :D :D

BTW, with regards to female flight deck crew, I often find them more pleasant (and quite often more professional) than their male colleagues!
