I was ment to car pool with my sister down to JFK even though our flight times were a few hours off, but I had lost my wallet, so she left and so I was driven down by my dad later in the day, arriving around 16:30.
Bag drop took about 5 minutes and the agent who did it was very friendly. I asked about a PE upgrade, as I had to be at work in Southampton the next morning, but unfortunately none were available. ( I could have had a UC upgrade at $1300!) He saw I was Ag and put a PE priority tag on my bag (but apparently Ag memebers don't normally get that if they are in Y??) Can anyone confirm?
Security queues seemed long, but was through in about 10 minutes, and avoided the body scanner!
I picked up my usual DF bottle of Hendricks (£19, cheaper than LHR DF!) and made my way to the gate.
17:20 - pre boarding
17:21 - UC called
17:28 - My Y group called. I was wished a pleasant flight by name, which is always nice, but they never seem to do it at LHR, only JFK.
I was in my seat (32A) by 17:35. And 20 minutes later the captain announces a 6hr flight time! Super quick! There was quite a lot of condensation coming from the A/C vents as the door was still open, and a few passengers must have asked about it as the captain made a few jokes and told everyone not to worry about it.
18:13 - Pushback with a 25 minute taxi - not bad considering this is JFK we are talking about. I've had taxi times of almost two hours before!
18:38 - Takeoff from the southwest runway
Dinner was served an hour out from JFK, but I can't remember what I had as it was so long ago. It was pretty good though.
I didn't get much sleep on the flight, but somehow managed to be alive by the time I got off the plane.
Breakfast was the usual danish or muffin with juice or coffee.
We landed at 06:05 and was at the gate 5 minutes later. The captain came on and said "one of those big A380s has just came in behind us, so it may be in everyones' interest to disembark quickly." You could see people's worried faces after that, but everyone did hurry up and was quickly off the plane out of L2. And from L2 to exiting the airport it was....wait for it....15 minutes flat! Almost all of those minutes were taken up either walking to passport control or waiting in the queue. Priority bag tagging worked as it should, with UC bags off first, and then PE. Mine was one of the first PE bags, so I grabbed it at made my escape!
Then it was out of the airport and on the train/tube to Waterloo and the highspeed down to Southampton just in time for my 10AM meeting...
